JOYCE MANOR TIES FOR 2022'S LONGEST #1 REIGN AMID SPRING CLEANUP
Despite a huge week of changes on the chart, including two big movers into the top 10, another into the top 20 and a huge purge with 10 debuts, the top 3 remains static with Joyce Manor earning their fourth week at #1 with "Gotta Let It Go", now tying for longest reign of the year to date with Loathe and Teenage Wrist's "Is It Really You?" The band fends off close challenges from Boston Manor's "Foxglove" at #2 and Citizen's "Bash Out" at #3, as well as the fast gaining "Had To Know" by Jerry Cantrell, recently confirmed as the fourth proper single from Brighten with a limited vinyl release, up 10-5 in its third week.
The top 10 gets a major shakeup with two huge movers getting in this week - defending chart champions Joyce Manor bolt 28-6 with "Don't Try", becoming their eighth top 10 and competing to follow "Gotta Let It Go" as their second #1. The Canadian supergroup Envy of None's "Never Said I Love You", whose members include former Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson, vaults 16-7. Turnstile's "Mystery", a former five-week #1 and my #10 song of 2021, returns to the top 10 with an 11-8 move helped by its top 10 alternative radio rank, debut on the Globalchart and finally hearing the song on FM radio. Adding to the shakeup in the top 20 is a big move for JessieLou's "Jealousy", up 35-15 in its second week.
Leading the week's 10 debuts is the long awaited return of Kendrick Lamar at #22 with "N95", taken from his fifth studio album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. The new album marks Lamar's first new music on his own name since his contributions to the 2018 Black Panther soundtrack, and his first album since 2017's DAMN., whose lead single "HUMBLE." became the chart's most successful rap song with a four-week stay at #1. Other notable new entries this week include "The Foundations Of Decay" by My Chemical Romance at #26, the emo superstars' first reunion-era song.
