HATCHIE EARNS SECOND #1 WITH "QUICKSAND"; MUSE, JESSIELOU AND CHILI PEPPERS AIM TO GET THERE NEXT
On the strength of strong play and increasing M4B genre support, Australian indie pop singer Hatchie earns her second Burner 50 #1 with "Quicksand", dethroning Loathe and Teenage Wrist's "Is It Really You?" after a monthlong stay at the top that kept Hatchie in the runner-up spot for the last two weeks. "Quicksand", which recently became Hatchie's best peaking entry on the Globalchart, tops the chart nearly three years since her previous #1 "Without A Blush", which spent seven weeks at the summit and ranked as the chart's #4 song of 2019.
A close battle for #1 is brewing among multiple competitors with consistently strong play from me and M4B genre support in recent weeks, including Muse's "Won't Stand Down", up to a new peak of #3; JessieLou's "02.05.2011", up one to #5 to match "Identity Crisis" and "Left On Read" as her best peak over the last year; and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Black Summer", up 9-6 and likely to become the band's third Burner 50 top 5 while aiming for their second #1.
Three new entries crack the top 10 this week, led by Carpenter Brut's Greg Puciato collaboration "Imaginary Fire", up 14-8 to become the first top 10 hit for the synthwave musician and the first as a credited artist for Puciato, former frontman of the Dillinger Escape Plan and current Jerry Cantrell backup singer. Puciato also has one of the week's four debuts at #45 with "Lowered", a collaboration with Code Orange singer Reba Myers, which is the lead single from his upcoming solo album Mirrorcell. The remaining new top 10 entries are Heavenward's "Supernova", up 22-9 in its second week, and NO WIN's "New Year", which inches up 11-10 to become the sixth top 10 hit for the California band led by former Fidlar member Danny Nogueiras.
Experimental/industrial rock band HEALTH earns the week's top debut at #33 with "Cold Blood", their collaboration with the metal band Lamb Of God. It's their fourth overall charting entry and third from Part II of their two-part DISCO4 collaboration series, which will also include the previously released "Isn't Anyone" with Nine Inch Nails (#22) and "Dead Flowers" with Poppy (#9).
