LOATHE/WRIST REIGN THREATENED BY HATCHIE JUMP AND JESSIELOU DEBUT
Breaking a streak of four successive two-week #1s, Loathe and Teenage Wrist's collaboration "Is It Really You?" extends its reign atop the Burner 50 to a third consecutive week. But the reign for the two groups' record breaking chart topper is under imminent threat from a big mover and a big debut.
Jumping 12-2 after a month on is Hatchie's "Quicksand", the second single from the Australian singer's upcoming second studio album Giving The World Away. The song, co-written with former As Tall As Lions frontman and Olivia Rodrigo collaborator Dan Nigro, benefits from strong play in the last week and a half to become Hatchie's third top 2 Burner 50 hit, following "Sure" (#2 in 2018) and "Without A Blush" (seven weeks at #1 in 2019).
Making instant impact at #10 following massive pre-release hype in the last month is JessieLou's "02.05.2011", the lead single from her upcoming second album Love Is Blind, released last Saturday to time with the 11-year anniversary of the events described in the song's lyrics. The song is the immediate followup to a streak of four M4B Radio Top 40 #1s and Globalchart top 20s from her previous album Take Me As I Am, which was an unexpected runaway success on personal charts and M4B Radio last year. "02.05.2011" becomes the chart's 18th top 10 debut and first for a user song; it's the highest of five songs to debut this week.
Besides Hatchie and JessieLou, there's two other notable top 10 entries. Muse's "Won't Stand Down", a return to form for the British alt-rock band after nothing from their last three albums connected with me, becomes their first top 10 with an 11-7 jump; the song has recently emerged as a significant M4B hit. And Heavenward, the grunge/shoegaze project of former Teenage Wrist member Kamtin Mohager, earns its fifth top 10 with "Wish", up 13-8 in its third week. Another song to watch is the new one from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, "Black Summer", which jumps 49-21 in its second week on the chart.
