JERRY CANTRELL, DRUG CHURCH CONTINUE HOLDING TOP 2; WEBBED WING COMPETE FOR THIRD #1
For a fourth consecutive week, the Burner 50's top 2 songs belong to Jerry Cantrell and Drug Church. Cantrell's "Nobody Breaks You", fresh off its #2 M4B Radio Top 40 and #11 Globalchart success despite no official single release (it's still competing for #1 and top 10, respectively), holds at #1 for a second week, and is likely to remain dominant in the coming weeks as the vinyl of its parent album Brighten is expected to arrive soon. The song Cantrell replaced from the top spot, Drug Church's "Million Miles Of Fun", continues holding strongly at the #2 position.
Aiming to disrupt the current duopoly is Webbed Wing, competing for their third #1 with "Jesus's Age" up 9-3. The third charting song from their second album What's So F***ing Funny? is trying to follow the lead of previous entries "Make A Dime" and "Dream Come True", which collectively spent seven weeks at #1 late last year. The recently-broken up Every Time I Die acheives a new peak with the unexpected Globalchart top 40 hit "Thing With Feathers", up 5-4 to match "Post-Boredom" as their highest charting entry. Meanwhile, Turnstile lands its 11th top 10 hit and sixth from their latest album Glow On with album highlight "Underwater Boi" on strong play despite no single release, and Cloakroom earns its first with "Lost Meaning" up 14-9. While the heavy shoegaze band is new to the top 10, lead singer and guitarist Doyle Martin previously made it in as a member of Nothing; he joined the band for their latest album The Great Dismal, which spawned five top 10 hits including the top 5-peaking "Say Less", "Bernie Sanders" and "April Ha Ha".
Seven songs debut this week, led by Loathe and Teenage Wrist's "Is It Really You?" at #16. The second of three collaborative singles Loathe are releasing over a six-week period (the first, "Dimorphous Display" with the musician and producer Eddie Al-Shakarchi, currently sits in the Next in Line list) is a re-recording of a song from their 2020 album I Let It In And It Took Everything, which spawned the #8 Burner 50 hit "Two-Way Mirror". The collaboration is Teenage Wrist's first charting entry since a record breaking/tying streak of five #1 hits from their second album Earth Is A Black Hole.
