WEBBED WING EARN FIRST EVER BURNER 50 #1; WILL YIP LANDS FIRST #1 PRODUCTION SINCE MAY 2018
Philadelphia grunge/emo band Webbed Wing, a band that features Taylor Madison and Jacob Clarke from Superheaven, have earned their first Burner 50 #1 with "Make A Dime". It climbs 3-1 in its fourth week following a speedy climb since the song's release as the lead single from their sophomore album, What's So F***ing Funny?, reuniting the ex-Superheaven members with producer Will Yip, who produced that band's two studio albums Jar and Ours Is Chrome.
With "Make A Dime" ascending to #1, it marks a first for both Webbed Wing and Superheaven; Webbed Wing previously went as high as #3 with "Perfect", and Superheaven twice hit #6, with "I've Been Bored" and "Next To Nothing". It also marks the first time in more than three years that Yip, who's produced, engineered and/or mastered about 100 charting entries on the Burner 50, has a credit on a Burner 50 #1 song. Yip has done so four times in the past, all four with Citizen: "Cement", "Jet", "Fever Days" and most recently "Flowerchild", which spent one week at #1 in May 2018. (He didn't work with Citizen on their self-produced fourth album Life In Your Glass World, which spawned three #1s this year.) Yip had a number of close calls that got thwarted by major chart events; most recently, Quicksand's #2-peaking "Missile Command" was blocked from #1 by Turnstile's "Holiday" and quickly passed by the instant impact of Jerry Cantrell's "Atone" in late July-early August.
Elsewhere on the chart, Turnstile holds at #2 with "Blackout", Thrice slips 1-3 with "Robot Soft Exorcism" after a single week on top, Every Time I Die moves 7-4 with "Post-Boredom" and Bearings vault 12-5 with "Get The Need" following strong play in recent days. Thrice creeps into the top 10 with "Summer Set Fire To The Rain" up 11-9, but are poised to make a bigger impact with "Buried In The Sun", which moves 26-12 in its second week and is likely to become the fourth top 10 from Horizons/East next week.
Leading the week's debuts are long awaited returns from Circa Survive and Anberlin; Circa Survive's "Imposter Syndrome" is the week's top debut at #33 following its Friday release as the lead track from their upcoming EP A Dream About Love, their first new music since a pair of B-sides from their 2017 album The Amulet, "Dark Pools" (a #17 Burner 50 hit) and "Indira's Net", in 2018. A spot below is Anberlin's "Two Graves", the band's first new music in seven years; they had split following the release of their 2014 album Lowborn.
