TURNSTILE EASILY HOLDS #1 ON WEEK OF BIG MOVERS AND HUGE DEBUTS
Despite a number of big climbers throughout this week's chart and two top 30 debuts, the week once again belongs to Turnstile, as "Holiday" spends its second week at #1 and the band's seventh, following the five-week reign of "Mystery", which slides 2-3 this week. "Holiday" continues to benefit from strong anticipation for their upcoming third studio album Glow On and overwhelmingly strong spin counts (at last count of my Last.fm, an 11-play gap over my #2 played song of the last month).
While the high spin count gap ensures Turnstile will be difficult to beat, a number of fast moving and high debuting songs are positioned to challenge. Quicksand earns the week's only new top 10 entry with "Missile Command", up 11-5 to become the band's third top 5 hit. High spins propel a number of songs that debuted in the last two weeks - Sam Fender's "Seventeen Going Under" (21-12), Poppy's "Her" (34-13), DZ Deathrays' "Kerosene" (50-21), A Great Big Pile Of Leaves' "Beat Up Shoes" (38-24) and Descendents' "Nightage" (49-30) - to solid gains and are likely to continue climbing fast if their momentum keeps up.
Six songs debut this week, including two in the top 30. First is "Scavengers" by Thrice at #15, the lead single from the band's ninth studio album Horizons/East; it's the band's 14th top 50 entry and fifth to debut in the top 20. Foxing follows at #23 with the title track from their upcoming album, "Draw Down The Moon", the album's fourth song to chart and their highest debuting entry thus far.
