TURNSTILE LANDS FIFTH WEEK AT #1 AND TOP 15 DEBUT; KAMTIN MOHAGER NEARS FIRST POST-WRIST #1
Turnstile continues to show their strength this week on the Burner 50 as they hold their lead for a fifth consecutive week with "Mystery", now becoming the longest reigning #1 for an artist not called Teenage Wrist or Citizen since Boston Manor's "Ratking" a year ago, which spent nine weeks at #1 and ranked as the #1 song of 2020. Turnstile also has a strong chance of carrying over that success with another song; "Holiday", a highlight from the Turnstile Love Connection EP that also features "Mystery", is the week's top debut at #13.
Closely threatening Turnstile for the top is former Teenage Wrist singer Kamtin Mohager's band Heavenward, which moves 7-2 with "Cartwheels" in the song's fourth week in the top 40, a faster impact than the band's previous two entries. "Cartwheels" now marks Mohager's highest charting entry since leaving Teenage Wrist, following three #3 placements between his post-Wrist grunge/shoegaze project Heavenward ("Hole" and "MJ-12") and his longtime indie dance project The Chain Gang Of 1974 ("Philosophy Of Love"). "Cartwheels" is likely to become Mohager's first #1 outside of Teenage Wrist; he was involved in the band's first four #1s including singing lead vocals on their breakthrough hit "Dweeb", which was my #1 song of 2018.
Heavenward's jump forces Olivia Rodrigo's "Brutal" to back down 2-3 after two weeks in the runner-up spot, but Rodrigo concurrently earns a second top 10 hit this week in "Good 4 U", up 13-7. Also entering this week's top 10 is Chvrches with the Robert Smith-assisted "How Not To Drown", up 16-9.
Besides Turnstile, other significant debuts this week include "Beat Up Shoes" by A Great Big Pile Of Leaves at #43, the lead single from Pono, the band's first album in eight years; "Seventeen Going Under" by Sam Fender at #44, the title track from the British singer's sophomore album, which follows up an M4B genre hit streak from his debut era; and "Let's Pretend There's No Pandemic" by JessieLou at #50, the followup to the surprise M4B hit "Identity Crisis".
