I'm a bit late getting this edition out since I was away from Friday night on a much needed professional development retreat where we wracked our brains on how to be great leaders who can develop great visions!
In any case, the chart teeters with activity, including a new #1 - again - and I have to remark on this! You'd have to look back to 2000 when I had two back to back songs that only had one appearance each at #1. They were "It Feels So Good" by Sonique and "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down. And having 3 single appearance #1's has never occurred in the almost 7 year history of this chart. So we'll have to see if The Caesars can make it two appearances and break what could be a jinx on the top spot. However you'd have to go down to #5 and #6 (Daniel Bedingfield, and Tyler & Bethany) for the most immediate competion unless one of the higher ranked songs rebounds...
The fastest riser is that insanely catchy "Don't Cha" by Pussycat Dolls. I've burned out on both recent songs by Black Eyed Peas and Gwen Stefani, so they both tumble.
There are four new songs in this edition, two from a recent favourite CD of mine:
DIARY
JULIA
both from Low Millions
Ex-Girlfriends is getting to be an addictive album. It's like watching "Desperate Housewives" - you get drawn deeper and deeper into these songs about past relationships. Adam Cohen's got a mysterious side - evident from his solo debut in 1998 - and "Diary" gets that point across with its odd atmosphere. "Julia" has some great lyrics and a fine melody which found it very chartworthy!
MUST GET OUT - Maroon5
Another song that's grown on me in recent weeks, it's not my fave from Songs About Jane but we'll see if it gets higher than "Tangled" (#15), which is what I thought was my favourite album track...
SPEED OF SOUND - Coldplay
A supremely logical follow up to "Clocks", the band simply has a great knack for creating a beautiful lilting melody that suits Chris Martin's voice to a capital T. People are anticipating that 2005 will be The Year Of Coldplay, and it's not hard to wonder why.
The rest of the chart is posted at my website, so you can use the link in my signature to find out how the rest of the songs are doing. As always, your comments are always welcome!
