U2 gets their first Top 10 in almost 10 years as 'Vertigo' moves 11-10 on Michael's Top 40. The Irish band, who's last appearance in the Top 10 was in October 1995 when 'Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me' peaked at #8. Since then, they charted in the Top 20 once with 'If God Will Send His Angels' and briefly made the Top 30 with 'Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of'. 'Vertigo' is the band's fourth MT40 single and stretches their chart history out another couple years.
Jason Mraz moves 2-1 with 'Tonight, Not Again', marking his fifth time at #1. All of Jason's previous releases have hit #1 on MT40 and he's the only male artist to have his first five singles go to #1. Only Destiny's Child and Martina Sorbara are ahead of him. DC's first six hit #1 and Martina's firth eight have done it.
Jason's movement into #1 also marks the first live recording to make it to the top of the chart since Alanis Morissette made it with 'Princes Familiar' in 2000.
Eminem is en route to becoming the first male rapper to hit #1 on MT40 since Nelly did it in 2001 with 'Ride Wit Me'. Rap music has never been huge on MT40. Last year, Outkast made it to the top with 'Hey Ya' and before that, only Nelly and Lauryn Hill have hit #1. Lauryn did it three times with 'Doo Wop' and 'Ex Factor' in 1999 and 'Do You Like The Way' in 2000 with Santana.
Avril Lavigne just finished up a 13-week run at #1, making her the second artist to have a song spend 1/4 of a year on top. Chantal Kreviazuk is the only other artist and she has done it three times. 14 weeks for 'Leading Me Home' and 13 weeks each for 'Before You' and 'Feels Like Home'. 'Nobody's Home' is only the second song in the 2000s to spend 10+ weeks at #1 following 'Leading Me Home' in 2002.
