• Like in the rest of the world, Adele is the big news on The Max 100 as she debuts at #1 with the first release from her upcoming 25 album. With Hello’s big entry, it actually marks her first time at the top of the chart. She came close twice in 2011 with Rolling In The Deep, which spent 5 weeks at #2 and Someone Like You, which stayed in the runner-up position for a record-tying 8 weeks. In both cases, Adele came second to Lady Gaga during Gaga-domination as she was having four consecutive #1s in 2011. Rolling was #2 to Born This Way while Someone was #2 to The Edge Of Glory.
• With Adele’s entry at #1, she’s the first artist in nearly two years to enter the chart on top. The last to do it was Beyoncé when her album track Haunted debuted there in December 2013. She was the fourth to do so in 2013, after Tegan and Sara, Lissie and Lady Gaga all debuted at #1, all with album tracks. Adele’s Hello is the first official single to enter at #1 since Starships by Nicki Minaj in 2012. In total, 24 songs have entered at #1 in The Max 100 chart history.
• Hello is Adele’s 7th Top 10 hit and first since Skyfall peaked at #3 for 3 weeks in 2012. Her first album, 19, had just one charting single with Chasing Pavements (#52). 21 charted seven tracks, five of which went Top 10. The two #2 hits Rolling In The Deep and Someone Like You, the #3-debuting Don’t You Remember, Set Fire To The Rain (#9) and Rumour Has It (#10). Also charting were I’ll Be Waiting (#20) and Lovesong (#68).
