I have been meaning to make this thread for awhile, so here it is. I know JessieLou and I have talked a little about this stuff but this is a more organized thread for it. Whatever your goals are (lose weight, gain weight, whatever), this is a place to talk about it and give/receive advice. Personally, I'm trying to gain muscle. The winter weather has kept me from going to the gym as much as I want but that should be over, at least for this week. Tomorrow I have the day off. I plan on eating eggs for breakfast, lean pork cutlets for lunch, fruits throughout the day and a steak burrito for dinner. Also, protein shakes (not Alabama Shakes). For working out I'm going to do lifting focused on the arms, chest and back.

I love hearing this! Best of luck in your training. Remember that it's 70% diet! I should also mention I'm a qualified trainer, but it's hard to push you to train over the internet

That's awesome, man! Maybe you can't motivate over the Internet but you can definitely share some knowledge. I'd be open to any tips/pointers you might have regarding what I'm trying to do. Also it's funny how trying to improve your body can be taken the wrong way. My mom seems to think going to the gym to look better is shallow. I told her I'm shallower than a puddle in Death Valley.

I have struggled with weight my entire life, but I never really cared that much until I was about 13. When I was 15 I was constantly bullied for my weight and ALWAYS thought I was extremely heavy. Between my body shaming and going through a phase where my lunch was 100 calories, my family was concerned that I had distorted body image/anorexia, and they were right. I recently looked back at photos of myself during this time and while I WAS a tad overweight, I did not have the body of a sumo wrestler like I always told my family at the time. I felt so silly looking at some of those old photos. In 2009-2010, I lost 45 pounds, but I wasn't eating healthy meals and instead was eating as little calories as I could, and would deny myself treats as much as possible. When I became depressed in March 2011, I gave up and gained that weight back and more, and despite getting better mentally, I still haven't been able to get rid of the weight, except I did lose 15 pounds over the summer. I've been trying to lose weight much differently this time though - before I was eating 100 calorie packs and limiting my calories as much as possible, but now I try to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and maybe a little snack after dinner. I track my calories consumed and burned and drink no less than 8 cups of water, I've even been into cooking and finding healthy recipes online! And before I was exclusively using the treadmill, which I still use, but I have a bunch of workout videos that I want to try and now that my Polar FT4 heart rate monitor came in the mail this morning I can now track my calories with that! I'm really excited to use it. I also want to try using the elliptical since I know that helps a lot. My goal is to go back to the weight I was in 2010 because that honestly wasn't bad at all. I was able to fit into my favorite brands well and let's face it, that's what I mainly care about.

People in middle and high school generally tend to be a bunch of jerks, so it's no surprise to me that they gave you a hard time about your weight. It was definitely VERY dangerous to undertake such an extreme diet, and it's relieving that you now know better than that. I'm really sorry that you have had to go through all that you have been through. I like your current diet plan of not taking things so extreme. Back in 2008, I lost about 35 pounds in 6 weeks. All the while eating the same types of lunches, dinners, breakfasts and snacks. The only things I cut out were sweets (I was a junkie of cookies, cakes, doughnuts, etc. before that) and also sodas because of the necessary calories. Me losing weight had everything to do with becoming an avid bike rider. And by that I don't mean a Lance Armstrong type; I just mean a guy who rode his Wal Mart mountain bike on nice long rides. Your plan of incorporating different things into your workout regime is a good idea I think. I'm sure Matt would concur. The more you work out, the better you'll feel. At least that's how it is for me.

I used to be a skinny runt of a thing at 191cm tall and 70kg (I don't understand the non-metric system in my country, sorry). For my height, the weight made me look lanky and I even gained a horrible Nickname from it at one point, which I won't repeat cos those people were nasty pieces of $hit that can die in hell So when I was about 23/24 I decided to give this gym thing a try. Sure, I felt completely stupid first trying out, but once I realized that people there only cared about themselves and didn't really care why I was there, I got over my insecurities and even started to enjoy it. I'm still 191cm tall (funny that) but I now fluctuate between 89kg and 91kg as of the start of this year. I feel I look a lot more respectable and it doesn't hurt getting compliments every now and then from the boys I decided to do a course in it in 2013, gaining my cert 3 in Fitness. I've yet to complete Cert 4 but I probably will one day. Nutrition was my favourite subject. It just fascinated me. I love my food so that makes sense. I still eat too much junk food, so I'm not perfect, but I do eat a lot of healthy meals too to kind of balance it out. I think it's mainly a problem if you are scoffing down McDonalds 5 times a week etc. I learnt different programs and how to train pregnant women and even children. A good tip is that water has x10 resistance, so if you train in that, you have to work 10 times as hard as you would in a gym
