Hey everyone! It's time for the holidays and a huge housecleaning just occurred on my chart, so plenty of new tunes abound. There's a new #1 on the chart after a fiercely competitive two weeks, and a few big jumps courtesy of Green Day, Darren Hayes, and U2. Plus, message board faves Naomi Striemer and Tyler Hilton appear back-to-back not once, but twice, since they both have debuts this week.
Check out my comments below about the songs new to the chart. I love feedback, so your comments are appreciated! Since this chart is bi-weekly, my next chart will be the last of 2004, on December 27.
BEAUTIFUL SOUL Jesse McCartney
Now that the North American public is pretty much done with boy bands, will 2005 be the year of Earnest Young Men? Well, judging from Globalchart contributions, "Summerland"'s Jesse McCartney may lead the way (along with a certain Cabreradude) with this thoughtful trifle which has been growing on me for a few weeks.
I LIKE THE WAY Darren Hayes
Essentially the unofficial title track from The Tension & The Spark, it's a mid-tempo contrast to my favourite song on that CD, "Sense Of Humour", which climbs the chart this week. The album overall is not too great, but still likeable with individual tunes, and I don't expect others to reach my chart.
THE LETTER SONG Tyler Hilton
What a great song from Tyler's The Tracks Of CD, which I hope to receive in the mail next week, since you can't yet buy it in Canada. His style is folk/rock, without being too folksy or cutesy. I'd like to see hiim in concert to see if he can show his talent on stage.
RUN Naomi Striemer
"Fall Behind" makes a rebound on the chart this week, and "Run" makes a significant debut which will result in Top 10 status. It's a stunning track on a well crafted CD, showcasing Naomi's excellent voice. I'll probably post a review of the CD in the Opinions forum in the coming weeks.
SAD EYES Liam Titcomb
The last song to appear on my chart with this title was by Enrique Iglesias. Like Tyler Hilton, Liam Titcomb has folk roots (his dad is Toronto folk singer Brent Titcomb), and he has been performing since he was 13. This is an earnest, well-thought-out song which sounds great on the radio.
TRUE Ryan Cabrera
Yes, Dan-O got me to check this one out. It's a ballad that shows Cabrera's writing and singing talent, which to me didn't come out on "On The Way Down". We'll see how far this goes, but it has a high debut.
THE WONDER OF IT ALL (Escape 2 Gomi mix) Kristine W
From one of my favourite dance divas - the only singer to have all of her dance hits reach #1 on Billboard's club chart - with a new tune that would mix in great with Motorcycle's "As The Rush Comes" and then takes a different turn once she starts singing. This will probably grow on me even more.
