Guess what, y'all? I'M BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!! You probably noticed that I stopped posting my chart here (yet again) back in February. Well, it wasn't just here - it had shut down at that point, as I hit a very sudden and quick burnout on present-day music at that time. I took about a six-month hiatus from anything new/current, up until the beginning of August. Watching an episode of America's Got Talent one week, "Blurred Lines" was performed - and it was mentioned that the song was a huge smash, already with several weeks atop the Hot 100. Needless to say, that got my attention, so I took a glance at the then-current charts. ...and to make a long story short: (Too late! )That brought my hiatus to an end. After a few weeks of surveying the landscape for the current and up-and-coming hits, I started my chart back up again. I initially had a fluid limit, then settled on a Top 30. This week, I've expanded to 40. And...here is the result: Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: October 5, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 40 | 39 | -- | 1 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 39 | 38 | 30 | 6 | Anna Kendrick | Cups (When I'm Gone) | 8 | 37 | -- | 1 | Armin van Buuren featuring Trevor Guthrie | This is What it Feels Like | 37 | 36 | -- | 1 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 36 | 35 | -- | 1 | John Newman | Love Me Again | 35 | 34 | -- | 1 | Emeli Sande | My Kind of Love | 34 | 33 | -- | 1 | Ellie Goulding | Burn | 33 | 32 | 24 | 6 | One Direction | Best Song Ever | 12 | 31 | -- | 1 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 31 | 30 | 28 | 4 | Backstreet Boys | In a World Like This | 27 | 29 | -- | 1 | Martin Garrix | Animals | 29 | 28 | -- | 1 | Junior Doctor | Dancing in Your Dreams | 28 | 27 | 29 | 2 | Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. | I Wish | 27 | 26 | 22 | 6 | Lana Del Rey | Summertime Sadness | 14 | 25 | 27 | 3 | Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar | Thinking About You | 25 | 24 | 26 | 4 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 24 | 23 | 23 | 5 | Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc | Wake Me Up | 23 | 22 | 14 | 6 | Maroon 5 | Love Somebody | 3 | 21 | 25 | 5 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 21 | 20 | 20 | 6 | Lorde | Royals | 20 | 19 | 19 | 5 | Paramore | Still Into You | 19 | 18 | 18 | 6 | Parachute | Can't Help | 18 | 17 | 10 | 6 | Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande | Beneath Your Beautiful | 10 | 16 | 16 | 6 | Katy Perry | Roar | 14 | 15 | 17 | 6 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 15 | 14 | 21 | 3 | Britney Spears | Work Bitch! | 14 | 13 | 15 | 6 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 13 | 12 | 13 | 6 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 12 | 11 | 11 | 6 | Cody Simpson | Pretty Brown Eyes | 9 | 10 | 8 | 6 | Capital Cities | Safe and Sound | 6 | 9 | 12 | 6 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 9 | 8 | 9 | 6 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 8 | 7 | 7 | 6 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 7 | 6 | 6 | 6 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 6 | 5 | 3 | 6 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 3 | 4 | 2 | 6 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 (1) | 3 | 5 | 6 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 3 | 2 | 4 | 6 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 2 | 1 | 1 | 6 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) |
"Same Love" kicked off the chart's return at #1, only yielding to "Clarity" for the week of September 14. I've been playing "Lay Me Down" for a couple of weeks now - while it's nowhere near being an actual single yet, I can't really justify keeping it off just for that reason. It's because of that, though, that I put the song at #40. In any case, I anticipate a long run from it. And how about two gay Lamberts coming in in the same batch of 10 (one male, one female)? And back-to-back to boot. No song actually falls off this week, but both "Cups" and "Best Song Ever" (last week's Biggest Dropper) should go next week. Further up, Tegan & Sara start to move, as they're now just outside the Top 20. The week's Biggest Mover is once again Britney (who jumped eight last week), leaping another seven notches this week, while "Love Somebody" joins the two expected soon-to-be droppers in falling eight. Train take "Bruises" into the Top 10. They've racked up five #1s, all since 2010...will this become their sixth? Until next week... -Mike Oh yes...one more thing. I think for the time being I'm going to try keeping everything to one thread as opposed to one-thread-per-week as I've done in the past.

Another (slightly) early posting this week. So, it'll be National Coming Out Day for a few more hours (in my area). And "Same Love", arguably the most widespread LGBT anthem we've seen, has been #1 here for 5 of the past 6 weeks. Wait a minute, what's that you say? Somebody else has taken over that post this week? Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: October 12, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | 22 | 7 | Maroon 5 | Love Somebody | 3 | 39 | -- | 1 | Midnight Red | Take Me Home | 39 | 38 | 40 | 2 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 38 | 37 | 39 | 2 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 37 | 36 | -- | 1 | Christina Aguilera | We Remain | 36 | 35 | 30 | 5 | Backstreet Boys | In a World Like This | 27 | 34 | 36 | 2 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 34 | 33 | 37 | 2 | Armin van Buuren featuring Trevor Guthrie | This is What it Feels Like | 33 | 32 | 34 | 2 | Emeli Sande | My Kind of Love | 32 | 31 | 31 | 2 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 31 | 30 | 35 | 2 | John Newman | Love Me Again | 30 | 29 | 26 | 7 | Lana Del Rey | Summertime Sadness | 14 | 28 | 28 | 2 | Junior Doctor | Dancing in Your Dreams | 28 | 27 | 33 | 2 | Ellie Goulding | Burn | 27 | 26 | 17 | 7 | Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande | Beneath Your Beautiful | 10 | 25 | 29 | 2 | Martin Garrix | Animals | 25 | 24 | 27 | 3 | Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. | I Wish | 24 | 23 | 25 | 4 | Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar | Thinking About You | 23 | 22 | 24 | 5 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 22 | 21 | 23 | 6 | Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc | Wake Me Up | 21 | 20 | 10 | 7 | Capital Cities | Safe and Sound | 6 | 19 | 20 | 7 | Lorde | Royals | 19 | 18 | 21 | 6 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 18 | 17 | 18 | 7 | Parachute | Can't Help | 17 | 16 | 11 | 7 | Cody Simpson | Pretty Brown Eyes | 9 | 15 | 19 | 7 | Paramore | Still Into You | 15 | 14 | 16 | 7 | Katy Perry | Roar | 14 | 13 | 15 | 7 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 13 | 12 | 13 | 7 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 12 | 11 | 12 | 7 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 11 | 10 | 5 | 7 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 3 | 9 | 14 | 4 | Britney Spears | Work Bitch! | 9 | 8 | 8 | 7 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 8 | 7 | 9 | 7 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 7 | 6 | 4 | 7 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 (1) | 5 | 7 | 7 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 5 | 4 | 6 | 7 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 4 | 3 | 2 | 7 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 2 | 2 | 1 | 7 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) | 1 | 3 | 7 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 1 (1) |
DROPPERS:Anna Kendrick - Cups (When I'm Gone) (from 38) One Direction - Best Song Ever (from 32) Well, maybe this shouldn't be so shocking after all. Sara Bareilles takes her message of coming out support and makes it her second #1 here this week. Her next contenders look to be Taylor Swift/Ed Sheeran, and Lady Gaga, who each move up two and into the Top 5. She should be secure for next week, I'm thinking, but beyond that is where the fight will begin. Britney, meanwhile, continues to work, jumping five and landing back in the Top 10. She actually only has two #1s on my chart to her credit - "Toxic" and "3". (Though, she missed out on many between 2006 and 2009 due to my not having a chart.) I'd say her chances are very good for nabbing her third chart-topper here. Lots of songs moving upward, though it's leading to logjams in select areas. We're due to see new Top 10s soon though, as quite a few songs up there now start to fall. Ellie Goulding burns a path up six to become the week's Biggest Mover. "Lights" peaked at #12 here last year, still during the Top 20 days. I don't think she should have that much trouble "Burn"ing past that mark. Maroon 5, meanwhile, take a huge plunge down as the week's Biggest Dropper. Comparing that to Robin Thicke's large drop last month feels too apples-to-oranges to make a real contrast, though. That should just about do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... -Mike

I remember you! Hey brotha! Sucks that you were late to the party on "Blurred Lines" - I know how you feel. In 2009-2010 I stopped paying attention to top 40 in favor of hard rock and heavy metal, and as a result, I never heard Orianthi's "According To You" until 2011. Had I heard it when it was out it probably would've been a #1 for me. Oh well :/ Great to see Britney top 10 and debuts from Christina and Midnight Red

Then once it started getting in the way on the charts , it plummeted very quickly.

Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: October 19, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Five For Fighting | What If | 40 | 39 | 35 | 6 | Backstreet Boys | In a World Like This | 27 | 38 | 39 | 2 | Midnight Red | Take Me Home | 38 | 37 | 38 | 3 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 37 | 36 | 29 | 8 | Lana Del Rey | Summertime Sadness | 14 | 35 | 37 | 3 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 35 | 34 | 26 | 8 | Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande | Beneath Your Beautiful | 10 | 33 | 36 | 2 | Christina Aguilera | We Remain | 33 | 32 | 34 | 3 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 32 | 31 | 31 | 3 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 31 | 30 | 20 | 8 | Capital Cities | Safe and Sound | 6 | 29 | 32 | 3 | Emeli Sande | My Kind of Love | 29 | 28 | 28 | 3 | Junior Doctor | Dancing in Your Dreams | 28 | 27 | 33 | 3 | Armin van Buuren featuring Trevor Guthrie | This is What it Feels Like | 27 | 26 | 30 | 3 | John Newman | Love Me Again | 26 | 25 | 16 | 8 | Cody Simpson | Pretty Brown Eyes | 9 | 24 | 27 | 3 | Ellie Goulding | Burn | 24 | 23 | 25 | 3 | Martin Garrix | Animals | 23 | 22 | 24 | 4 | Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. | I Wish | 22 | 21 | 23 | 5 | Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar | Thinking About You | 21 | 20 | 21 | 7 | Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc | Wake Me Up | 20 | 19 | 22 | 6 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 19 | 18 | 19 | 8 | Lorde | Royals | 18 | 17 | 18 | 7 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 17 | 16 | 10 | 8 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 3 | 15 | 17 | 8 | Parachute | Can't Help | 15 | 14 | 14 | 8 | Katy Perry | Roar | 14 | 13 | 15 | 7 | Paramore | Still Into You | 13 | 12 | 13 | 8 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 12 | 11 | 12 | 8 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 11 | 10 | 8 | 8 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 8 | 9 | 6 | 8 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 (1) | 8 | 11 | 8 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 8 | 7 | 9 | 5 | Britney Spears | Work Bitch! | 7 | 6 | 3 | 8 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 2 | 5 | 7 | 8 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 5 | 4 | 4 | 8 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 4 | 3 | 5 | 8 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 3 | 2 | 2 | 8 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) | 1 | 1 | 8 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 1 (2) |
DROPPER:Maroon 5 - Love Somebody (from 40) A pretty slow week this week. Let's take a look at some of the more interesting moves: "Applause" leapfrogs Taylor & Ed to hit #3. Gaga's still got #1 in her sights; this would be her fifth #1 should she get there. Train, meanwhile, are looking for their sixth, as "Bruises" hits the Top 5. After some fast moving into the Top 10, Britney cools off a bit as she only moves two this week. All things considered, though, her slowdown this week is more reflective of a tough Top 10 than her actually slowing down. As she's looking to hit #1 as well, this would be her third. (Yes, third. She only has "Toxic" and "3" to her name as #1s on my chart, though both "Everytime" and "I Wanna Go" reached #2. I should also point out that both the Blackout and Circus eras lost out due to my not having a chart during those.) The queen of #1s, by far, though, is Avril Lavigne, with a full dozen of them to her name, as "Rock & Roll" is the sole new Top 10 entry this week. Pink and Drake are no strangers to the Top 10 should they get there next week, but for Paramore it would be their first ("Still Into You", by the way, is also their first chart single here. Like Britney, they lost out in the 2007-2009 period.) "Roar" has been floundering around in the mid-teens pretty much since the chart's re-start, but I think it's finally about to run out of gas. While Katy's not off to a very good start this era here, I'm thinking that "Unconditionally" will turn things around for her when it hits the chart. Speaking of which, there's only one debut this week, as "What If" marks the chart debut for Five For Fighting at #40. With four falling songs from #30 on down, though, we could see as many as four debuts next week. The highest of those songs, "Safe and Sound", is this week's Biggest Dropper, down ten, while not far away, "This is What it Feels Like" is this week's Biggest Mover, up six and pushing its way past three songs to do so. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... -Mike

This week, four ladies come in heralding four debut songs - two of them hot jams, two of them big ballads. Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: October 26, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly | Do What U Want | 40 | 39 | -- | 1 | Katy Perry | Unconditionally | 39 | 38 | -- | 1 | Lana Del Rey | Young & Beautiful | 38 | 37 | 25 | 9 | Cody Simpson | Pretty Brown Eyes | 9 | 36 | 40 | 2 | Five For Fighting | What If | 36 | 35 | 38 | 3 | Midnight Red | Take Me Home | 35 | 34 | 28 | 4 | Junior Doctor | Dancing in Your Dreams | 28 | 33 | 37 | 4 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 33 | 32 | 35 | 6 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 32 | 31 | -- | 1 | Ciara | Overdose | 31 | 30 | 32 | 4 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 30 | 29 | 33 | 3 | Christina Aguilera | We Remain | 29 | 28 | 31 | 4 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 28 | 27 | 29 | 4 | Emeli Sande | My Kind of Love | 27 | 26 | 26 | 4 | John Newman | Love Me Again | 26 | 25 | 27 | 4 | Armin van Buuren featuring Trevor Guthrie | This is What it Feels Like | 25 | 24 | 16 | 9 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 3 | 23 | 24 | 4 | Ellie Goulding | Burn | 23 | 22 | 23 | 4 | Martin Garrix | Animals | 22 | 21 | 22 | 5 | Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. | I Wish | 21 | 20 | 20 | 8 | Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc | Wake Me Up | 20 | 19 | 21 | 6 | Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar | Thinking About You | 19 | 18 | 19 | 7 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 18 | 17 | 18 | 9 | Lorde | Royals | 17 | 16 | 17 | 8 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 16 | 15 | 10 | 9 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 8 | 14 | 9 | 9 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 (1) | 13 | 14 | 9 | Katy Perry | Roar | 13 | 12 | 15 | 9 | Parachute | Can't Help | 12 | 11 | 6 | 9 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 2 | 10 | 13 | 8 | Paramore | Still Into You | 10 | 9 | 12 | 9 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 9 | 8 | 11 | 9 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 8 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 7 | 6 | 5 | 9 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 5 | 5 | 4 | 9 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 4 | 4 | 2 | 9 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) | 3 | 7 | 6 | Britney Spears | Work Bitch! | 3 | 2 | 3 | 9 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 2 | 1 | 1 | 9 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 1 (3) |
DROPPERS:Backstreet Boys - In a World Like This (from 39) Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness (from 36) Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande - Beneath Your Beautiful (from 34) Capital Cities - Safe and Sound (from 30) Lady Gaga narrowly misses bookending the chart this week, as Sara Bareilles spends a third week on top with "Brave". And Brave is what Sara will have to B next week in order to face down both Gaga and Britney for week number four. Speaking of Britney, "Work Bitch!" is one of three making the Biggest upward Move this week, up four notches, though her 7-3 leap is easily the most impressive of them. Meanwhile, four times three makes twelve, this week's Biggest Dropper Cody Simpson. Katy Perry joins Lady Gaga in taking her second single from her new album onto the chart this week. Far as I can recall, this is the first time that the two have both had debuts here on the same week. This will definitely be interesting to watch as they both go up. Ciara sails impressively in with the week's highest debut. This is her second song to reach my chart; she took "1, 2 Step" to #4 here in 2005. Despite coming right in at #31, she and most of the bottom 20 will have a rather tough time of it next week, with only one falling song ("Gone, Gone, Gone", oddly enough) in an 18-song stretch (33-16). As four of the next five after that are bulletless, they should bring relief as they come down. As Lana Del Rey replaces one song with another this week, it's the original (ballad) version that brings her here this week, whereas with "Summertime Sadness" it was the remix. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... -Mike

DROPPERS:Cody Simpson - Pretty Brown Eyes (from 37) Junior Doctor - Dancing in Your Dreams (from 34) Yep, new #1 song this week: It'll be her vs. Britney for the top spot next week. After that, Train and Avril will come into play. For the second time in three weeks, Armin van Buuren and Trevor Guthrie take Biggest Mover honors, this week with an eight-spot jump to #17. Trouble is, the next nine songs in front of them are all bulleted. Looks like they'll have to take some lessons from Britney if they want to work their way up. Not the best week for Katy - not only does Unconditionally get jumped by Gaga and R. Kelly, but Roar has the week's Biggest Drop, down eleven. Midnight Red go bulletless and drop to 38, but I don't expect them to drop right off. This was more of a bad week for them - I expect them to stick around for at least a little while. The 32-25 range tells the story of how tough things were down there this week, but with five of the next six songs above them all falling, I'd wager that next week that will be the most active area on the chart - swapping places with the teens for that honor. Meanwhile, "I Wish", the sole bulleted song in that five-of-six falling group, may have hit its peak this week as well. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... -Mike

Posting this early. I feel like I'm coming down with something , and so I want to have this up in case I'm not on here tomorrow. Two debuts this week: One from this chart's resident queen (more info below), and the other...well let's just say that I wonder just how long it'll take a certain poster (who shall remain nameless) to discover who it is. DROPPERS:Phillip Phillips - Gone, Gone, Gone (from 33) Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc - Wake Me Up (from 23) I warned you guys that the 20s would be the most active part of the chart this week. Lots of big jumps there! Granted, now the upper half of the chart is looking more static, though I think I may have spoken too soon about the Top 10 holding steady for a few weeks, as we'll be seeing some songs peaking and beginning to fall. Avril Lavigne secures her 17th chart appearance with the debut of "Let Me Go". Like the total of #1s, she has more than any other artist in this tally as well. Second place in this category belongs to Pink - "True Love" is her 13th chart appearance. Third place is a tie between Rob Thomas and Britney Spears, who have 10 apiece - Rob has five solo, and five with Matchbox Twenty. Speaking of Britney, her work powering up the chart pays off this week as "Work Bitch!" becomes her third #1 song on this chart. (Her other two are "Toxic" and "3", the latter of which kicked off the chart's second era in 2010.) A bit of bad news, however - don't expect "Perfume" to give her third place all to herself. It's not likely to chart here. Fourth place is currently a four-way tie - Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Train, and Adam Levine all have 9 apiece (Adam has 8 with Maroon 5, plus his feature on "Stereo Hearts"). Speaking of Katy, her two songs are this week's Biggest Mover and Dropper: Up 9 for "Unconditionally", down 14 for "Roar". Incidentally, after debuting right above her second single rival two weeks ago only to see that jump right over her last week, her jump this week puts her right back ahead. Looks like this is going to be a neck-and-neck race between the two as they both go up! And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... -Mike

There's way too much competition right now to allow for that one. Don't get me wrong, I definitely see "Stay" becoming a big hit here - he's just going to have to work for it, bitch!

DROPPERS:Katy Perry - Roar (from 38) Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding - I Need Your Love (from 32) Bonnie McKee - American Girl (from 31) Kind of a slow week, which started with me being sick over the weekend and progressing slowly back throughout the week. As a result, most of the rising songs all go up a few notches. And, the Biggest Move this week is just four notches, which no less than six songs do. There is but one Biggest Dropper however: Ex-#1 "Clarity" looks to be at the end of its run as it slides ten to #39. The lower half of the Top 10, in truth, is probably much weaker than the upper half at the moment. Both Pink and Drake slip a notch each. For Pink, there will be nowhere to go now but down, but for Drake, I'm not quite sure yet. At the very least he'll hang around a little longer than Pink will. Meanwhile, Tegan & Sara reach the Top 10, but may not stay there too long. So does Lorde, who might be able to tough it out a little longer. Then there's Paramore jumping 9-6, but I'm thinking that they're close to peaking soon as well. Meanwhile, Train stage a coup and steal the #1 spot this week (not the first time they've taken it from Britney), but as the Top 3 are all very close this week, it could prove to be one-and-done for them as well. Oh, and "Do What U Want" jumps back ahead of "Unconditionally" once again. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... -Mike

Super late this week. Had a very bad weekend. Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: November 23, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Michaela May | When You Say | 40 | 39 | 31 | 11 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 18 | 38 | -- | 1 | Bastille | Pompeii | 38 | 37 | 40 | 2 | The Fray | Love Don't Die | 37 | 36 | 38 | 2 | The 1975 | Chocolate | 36 | 35 | 37 | 2 | Fitz & The Tantrums | Out of My League | 35 | 34 | 33 | 7 | Midnight Red | Take Me Home | 33 | 33 | 34 | 4 | Melanie B | For Once in My Life | 33 | 32 | 36 | 3 | Steve Grand | Stay | 32 | 31 | 35 | 3 | Avril Lavigne featuring Chad Kroeger | Let Me Go | 31 | 30 | 32 | 4 | Daughtry | Waiting For Superman | 30 | 29 | 30 | 6 | Five For Fighting | What If | 29 | 28 | 29 | 5 | Lana Del Rey | Young & Beautiful | 28 | 27 | 19 | 13 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 4 | 26 | 27 | 8 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 26 | 25 | 26 | 8 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 25 | 24 | 25 | 8 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 24 | 23 | 22 | 8 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 22 | 22 | 23 | 5 | Lady Gaga featuring R. DROPPERS:Zedd featuring Foxes - Clarity (from 39) Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. - I Wish (from 28) I mentioned some weeks back that Avril was trying for her 13th #1 on my chart with "Rock & Roll" - and as the revolving door of #1s keeps turning, this week she gets it. Her Goodbye Lullaby-era #1s only had one or two weeks at the top, and with "Work Bitch!" still in the mix up there, it's anyone's guess as to whether this will do any better. The good news for her (and for Brit, for that matter) is that there are no other really strong #1 contenders at the moment ("Bruises" will not be returning). Anyone else even know who Michaela May is? (Willing to bet the answer is no. ) "When You Say" was a song that R&R and Billboard reported as going for Pop adds a few weeks back. I checked it out, as I've done with other "going for adds" songs, and surprise surprise, I like it. No it's not the best song in the world, but it's got a melody that I can't keep myself away from. Another relatively slow week - it's been tricky lately to have songs move up without feeling like I'm short-changing other good songs in the process. A few bulleted titles, though ("Still Into You", "Closer", "My Kind of Love", "Rough Water", "Take Me Home"), are very likely breathing their last breaths before making the fatal U-turn and going into death spiral, so combined with the already-falling songs, the chart should start to clean itself out a bit over the next month. In other Avril news, she and Steve Grand had two of six songs with a four-notch move last week - this week, they're the only two, while two other songs have the Biggest Drop of twice that far. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... -Mike

My interest in Avril has declined considerably since her 2002 debut, but I'm happy she was able to get to #1.
For me, Brave is Sara's worst song to-date. She didn't even get to top 100 on my airplay. I feel when I heard that song, I was actually shockingly disappointed. (and I love Sara a ton)
Who is Michaela May?
