One of their best and one of my favorite songs EVER 31. Fleetwood Mac - Don't Stop (debut) - great song! One of their best 30. Rod Stewart - The Killing Of Georgie (32) - I like this but he's had better 29. Electric Light Orchestra - Telephone Line (33) - ugh, they suck 28. Meri Wilson - Telephone Man (30) - WHAT IN THE f*ck IS THIS? GET SINGING LESSONS NOW. STOP LAUGHING IN YOUR SONG IT'S NOT FUNNY YOU CAN'T SING OMG. GOD. 27. Supertramp - Give A Little Bit (31) - ewww. the Goo Goo Dolls did it better 26. James Taylor - Handy Man (34) - not bad but yeah, he's had better. 25. Waylon Jennings - Luchenbach, Texas (25) - No. Just no. 24. Crosby, Stills & Nash - Just A Song Before I Go (29) - LOVE. THIS SONG. my second favorite from them just behind "Ohio". 23. Chicago update: Still a couple months before "Baby, What A Big Surprise", which we will hopefully hear on a 1977 show later this year. Queens update: Heart were #23, Jefferson Starship were inactive in 1977 because Marty Balin was being a mandiva and didn't want to release new music, Lita was in The Runaways, and Pat's debut album didn't come out until October 1979 so maybe she was still doing her opera training idk. Prediction for next week: 1979 or 1978 would be wonderful, or 1975 again since that's my favorite year of the 70's, but knowing Premiere it will most likely be the incredibly overexposed 1976.

I really need to stop making myself a stranger in this topic...
American Top 40: The 70s - July 19, 2014
This week's presentation - July 23, 1977
Droppers: I'M YOUR BOOGIE MAN - KC & THE SUNSHINE BAND (38) - This was so/so, but I preferred their next Top 40 hit "Keep It Comin' Love", which would debut on the chart three months later. DEVIL'S GUN - CJ & CO. (36) - This song was OK, but nothing I'd go out of my way to listen to. It sure got a lot of mileage on the chart; even though it spent two weeks in the Top 40, it lasted 29 weeks on the Hot 100 - good enough to land it at #100 on Billboard's year-ender. LUCILLE - KENNY ROGERS (35) - Good song, but not one of my favorites from him. LOVE'S GROWN DEEP - KENNY NOLAN (28) - Good song. This one sounded much like "I Like Dreamin'". FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME - FOREIGNER (27) - Great song! I liked this and their next hit, "Cold As Ice" about the same. LIFE IN THE FAST LANE - THE EAGLES (24) - Great song! Kind of hard to believe that this didn't hit the Top Ten, considering all the airplay it receives on oldies stations!
40: (REMEMBER THE DAYS OF) THE OLD SCHOOL YARD – CAT STEVENS (debut) - Wow, here's a Cat Stevens song I never heard. My mom had several of his records and played them every now and then when I was really young, but she must not have had this one. Anyway, it was a great song! 39: SLIDE - SLAVE (debut) - This was OK, but nothing special. 38: BLACK BETTY – RAM JAM (debut) - I was never crazy about this one - way too repetitive. 37: ON AND ON – STEPHEN BISHOP (debut) - Great song! Possibly his best song ever! 36: WAY DOWN – ELVIS PRESLEY (40) - This was pretty good, but I preferred his other 1977 hit. 35: SMOKE FROM A DISTANT FIRE - THE SANFORD-TOWNSEND BAND (39) - Great song! Too bad this band, who sounded a lot like Hall & Oates, didn't have any other hits. 34: HOW MUCH LOVE – LEO SAYER (debut) - Great song! My favorite of his 1977 hits! 33: ARIEL – DEAN FRIEDMAN (37) - Great song! This song appeared to be getting a second wind, as it had peaked at #26 several weeks before and had fallen out of the Top 40, but the previous week, it returned to the chart and was moving up this week. It would hit #32 two weeks later before disappearing for good. The song ranked at #69 on Billboard's Top 100 of 1977; kind of a surprise that it didn't make an appearance on the AT40 version of the chart. 32: DREAMS – FLEETWOOD MAC (22) - This song was pretty good, but definitely one of my favorites from them. 31: DON’T STOP – FLEETWOOD MAC (debut) - See my opinion for the above song. Not sure which song I prefer. 30: THE KILLING OF GEORGIE – ROD STEWART (32) - Good song, though I prefer many others from him. 29: TELEPHONE LINE – ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA (33) - Great song! One of my favorites from them! 28: TELEPHONE MAN – MERI WILSON (30) - This wasn't bad, but a little goofy sounding. OPTIONAL EXTRA: STAR WARS (MAIN TITLE) - LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA - Great song! This one hit the Top Ten, but as soon as Meco's discofied version came along, it fell fast. I personally preferred this one. 27: GIVE A LITTLE BIT - SUPERTRAMP (31) - Great song! One of their best! 26: HANDY MAN – JAMES TAYLOR (34) - Great song! I actually preferred this over the original. 25: LUCKENBACH, TEXAS (BACK TO THE BASICS OF LOVE) – WAYLON JENNINGS (25) - Good song, but I preferred the Dukes Of Hazzard theme. 24: JUST A SONG BEFORE I GO – CROSBY, STILLS & NASH (29) - Great song! One of my favorites from them! 23: BARRACUDA - HEART (26) - Good song, though I preferred many others from them, especially their more "poppy" songs from the 80s. 22: HIGH SCHOOL DANCE – THE SYLVERS (17) - This song was OK, but nothing special. 21: IT’S SAD TO BELONG – ENGLAND DAN & JOHN FORD COLEY (23) - Great song! Too bad this one wasn't as successful as most of their other Top 40 hits. 20: GOT TO GIVE IT UP PART 1 – MARVIN GAYE (19) - I'm generally not a huge fan of this type of hit, but for some reason, I like this one. 19: GONNA FLY NOW (THEME FROM “ROCKY”) – BILL CONTI (11) - Great song! I did slightly prefer the Maynard Ferguson version. 18: YOU’RE MY WORLD – HELEN REDDY (20) - Good song. This one has sort of a fifties flavor to it. 17: EASY – THE COMMODORES (21) - Great song! One of my favorites from them! 16: YOU MADE ME BELIEVE IN MAGIC – THE BAY CITY ROLLERS (18) - Although I'm not a huge Rollers fan, this was a good one. 15: JET AIRLINER – THE STEVE MILLER BAND (8) - Great song! My second favorite of their four 1977 hits, behind "Fly Like An Eagle". 14: KNOWING ME, KNOWING YOU - ABBA (16) - Great song, but it doesn't hold a candle to their other big 1977 hit. OPTIONAL EXTRA: COLD AS ICE - FOREIGNER - Hey, what do you know - I mentioned this song when I was going over the droppers and it was one of the Extras. As I said, I liked this and "Feels Like The First Time" pretty much equally. 13: YOU AND ME – ALICE COOPER (15) - Great song! One of my favorites from him, right up there with "Only Women". 12: WHATCHA GONNA DO – PABLO CRUISE (14) - Great song! Definitely one of their best hits! 11: (YOUR LOVE HAS LIFTED ME) HIGHER AND HIGHER – RITA COOLIDGE (13) - Great song! An interesting rendition of the Jackie Wilson classic. 10: BEST OF MY LOVE – THE EMOTIONS (12) - Wow, lots of songs moving up two spots in this area of the chart. Anyway, this was a great song, and sort of interesting that this hit #1, fell out, and rebounded to the top of the soul chart, as it would do the same on the Hot 100. 9: DO YOU WANNA MAKE LOVE – PETER McCANN (10) - Good song. Even though this and "Goodbye Girl" by David Gates sound similar, I preferred the latter. 8: MARGARITAVILLE – JIMMY BUFFETT (9) - Wow, now songs are moving up one spot. And, seeing as we have yet to hear last week's top seven songs, the next song is either a dropper or standing still. Anyway, this song was pretty good, but I preferred a few of Buffett's other songs, such as "Cheeseburger In Paradise" and "Fins". 7: UNDERCOVER ANGEL – ALAN O’DAY (3) - And it's a dropper! And it's a great one - definitely one of my favorite #1 songs of 1977! 6: ANGEL IN YOUR ARMS - HOT (6) - Good song. As this song was this high up in its seventeenth week on the charts, it seemed to be a cinch to make it to 20 weeks, but this song fell fast after this and only lasted for two additional weeks. That didn't stop it from being Billboard's fifth biggest hit of 1977 - one spot higher than its peak on the weekly charts. 5: MY HEART BELONGS TO ME – BARBRA STREISAND (7) - Great song! I liked her two big 1977 hits about the same. 4: I’M IN YOU – PETER FRAMPTON (5) - Great song! My favorite song by him! 3: DA DO RON RON – SHAUN CASSIDY (1) - Great song! One of several instances where I prefer the remake over the original. OPTIONAL EXTRA: BOOGIE NIGHTS - Meh, I was never a big fan of this one. 2: I JUST WANT TO BE YOUR EVERYTHING – ANDY GIBB (4) - Great song! Very likely my all-time favorite from him. 1: LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT – BARRY MANILOW (2) - Ah, great way to end the show, with two great songs! This is definitely one of my favorites from Manilow!

Queens update: Grace was working on her Grammy award-nominated masterpiece Dreams, Pat was working on her debut which would come out later that year, Heart were working on Bebe Le Strange, and Lita was temporarily out of the music business. Prediction for next week: I think 1974, but wouldn't surprise me if they go back to 1976 again. Before I wrap things up, around this time in 1979 one of my favorite songs of that year peaked at #48, this underrated gem from Carly Simon. How this didn't SMASH, I don't know! #Justice4Vengeance

American Top 40: The 70s - August 16, 2014
This week's presentation - August 16, 1975
Droppers: SWEARIN' TO GOD - FRANKIE VALLI (37) - Great song! Shame it fell out, because it's one of my favorites from him! SEND IN THE CLOWNS - JUDY COLLINS (36) - Good song. This one would return to the charts in late 1977 and become an even bigger hit than it was in its first run. ROCKIN' CHAIR - GWEN McCRAE (32) - I remember this one being mediocre - no huge loss. THE WAY WE WERE/TRY TO REMEMBER - GLADYS KNIGHT & THE PIPS (28) - Good song, though I preferred the original. SLIPPERY WHEN WET - THE COMMODORES (19) - No big loss - I didn't like their earlier stuff as much. 1977 was the year that they started getting really good. I'M ON FIRE - DWIGHT TWILLEY BAND (16) - Not bad, but I preferred the solo hits by band members Dwight Twilley and Phil Seymour.
40: SOLITARE - THE CARPENTERS (debut) - Great song! Is it me, or did this sound a lot like "Only Yesterday", from earlier in the year? 39: LOOK AT ME, I'M IN LOVE - THE MOMENTS (39) - This was a pretty decent song - your run-of-the-mill R&B slow jam. 38: LOVE BEING YOUR FOOL - TRAVIS WOMACK (40) - Good song, and interesting story about how they sneaked him into the nightclub when he was eleven, so he could play the drums in the stead of their regular drummer, who was sick and couldn't perform. 37: TWO FINE POPLE - CAT STEVENS (debut) - This song was pretty good, but I preferred several of his earlier hits. 36: DAISY JANE - AMERICA (debut) - Good song. This and "Let's Wait Awhile" by Janet Jackson sound very much alike (I also see similarities between this and "Heart Hotels" by Dan Fogelberg. 35: I BELIEVE THERE'S NOTHING STRONGER THAN OUR LOVE - PAUL ANKA & ODIA COATES (debut) - Good song, though it doesn't hold a candle to "Hold Me ('Til The Morning Comes). 34: THE HUSTLE - VAN McCOY & THE SOUL CITY SYMPHONY (11) - Wow, what a big drop! Great song; glad this one made it to the top. 33: MOHAMMAD ALI (THE BLACK SUPERMAN) - JOHNNY WAKELAND & THE CONCHASA BAND (debut) - Good song, though nothing I'd go out of my way to listen to. 32: 'TIL THE WORLD ENDS - THREE DOG NIGHT (38) - Good song. This one looked like it might be a good-sized hit, but, in fact, this was all the higher the song got. 31: TUSH - ZZ TOP (debut) - Though I generally prefer the "Afterburner" singles, this one was actually pretty good. 30: FAME - DAVID BOWIE (35) - This was OK, but definitely not one of my favorites from him. 29: DYNOMITE - BAZOOKA (13) - Good song - one inspired by JJ Walker's catchphrase on Good Times. 28: RENDEZVOUS - THE HUSDON BROTHERS (34) - This was pretty good. I vaguely remember watching their Razzle Dazzle show on Saturday mornings back in the day. 27: THAT'S WHEN THE MUSIC TAKES ME - NEIL SEDAKA (33) - This song was pretty good, but I preferred his two #1s from 1975. OPTIONAL EXTRA: THEME FROM JAWS - JOHN WILLIAMS - Good song, though I preferred Dickie Goodman's "Mr. Jaws", which would hit the chart about a month later. 26: HELP ME RHONDA - JOHNNY RIVERS (31) - This was good, but nothing beats the original by the Beach Boys. 25: THIRD-RATE ROMANCE - AMAZING RHYTHM ACES (30) - Good song that tells a somewhat interesting story 24: BALLROOM BLITZ - SWEET (29) - Not a fan of this one at all! 23: JUST A LITTLE BIT OF YOU - MICHAEL JACKSON (23) - I fell asleep completely at this point, so I must say it - wtf did this sound like again? 22: THAT'S THE WAY OF THE WORLD - EARTH, WIND & FIRE (27) - I was also asleep during this one, though I do vaguely remember hearing it. It's a great one - one of my favorites from EW&F. 21: FEEL LIKE MAKING LOVE - BAD COMPANY (25) - Good song, though I prefer a few others from them. 20: WASTED DAYS, WASTED NIGHTS - FREDDIE FENDER (24) - This song would probably be pretty good if not for his voice. 19: COULD IT BE MAGIC - BARRY MANILOW (26) - Great song! Definitely his best 1975 hit! 18: HOLDIN' ONTO YESTERDAY - AMBROSIA (21) - This was OK, but possibly my least favorite from them. 17: LISTEN TO WHAT THE MAN SAID - WINGS (12) - Great song! This was when their music began improving IMO. 16: AT SEVENTEEN - JANIS IAN (20) - Great song! I guess I could call this one a guilty pleasure! 15: FIGHT THE POWER - ISLEY BROTHERS (19) - This was actually a pretty good song, considering I generally don't like this kind of music. 14: MORNING BEAUTIFUL - TONY ORLANDO & DAWN (14) - Good song. This one would fall clean out of the Top 40 the following week, something that was rather common in 1975, as you can see by the droppers list above. 13: LOVE WILL KEEP US TOGETHER - THE CAPTAIN & TENNILLE (17) - I wonder how many people thought this fell out this week, as it was on its way down the chart. I wonder if its reverse course was due to the release of the Spanish version of this song, which debuted on the chart this week? Probably just a coincidence. 12: GET DOWN TONIGHT - KC & THE SUNSHINE BAND (22) - Great song! This one wasted absolutely no time hitting #1 (it would get there two weeks later), but then it fell down the chart just as fast. Not sure what the deal was there; it stuck around on the R&R chart for longer than it was on the Hot 100. 11: I'M NOT IN LOVE - 10CC (2) - Great song! Casey mentioned how this song was stuck at #2 for three weeks as three different songs leaped over it. Two weeks later, a drop out of the Top 40 from #14 added insult to injury. 10: ROCKFORD FILES - MIKE POST (10) - Great song. I remember hearing this song a lot, since my parents watched the Rockford Files on TV. 9: MIDNIGHT BLUE - MELISSA MANCHESTER (6) - Great song! One of her best songs! 8: HOW SWEET IT IS (TO BE LOVED BY YOU) - JAMES TAYLOR (9) - Great song! One of his best! 7: WHY CAN'T WE BE FRIENDS - WAR (8) - This wasn't bad - has possibly THE shortest verses in the world. 6: RHINESTONE COWBOY - GLEN CAMPBELL (7) - Great song! One I remember from back in the day, though I was but three and a half years old. 5: FALLING IN LOVE AGAIN - HAMILTON, JOE FRANK & REYNOLDS (15) - Great song! Casey made a slight faux pas. He said that "Get Down Tonight" back at #12, was the biggest jumper, but this song also made a ten-point leap. 4: SOMEONE SAVED MY LIFE TONIGHT - ELTON JOHN (5) - Great song! Definitely one of his best! 3: PLEASE MR. PLEASE - OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN (3) - Good song, though not quite her best. OPTIONAL EXTRA: S.O.S. - ABBA - This wasn't bad, but it doesn't hold a candle to "Dancing Queen" or "Winner Takes It All" 2: ONE OF THESE NIGHTS - EAGLES (4) - This one, which had hit #1 two weeks prior, actually did a reverse course this week (it even regained its bullet!) It was a good song; glad it made it to the top! 1: JIVE TALKIN' - BEE GEES (1) - Previously known for their slower songs, this was when they were becoming famous for their disco hits. This one, however, definitely wasn't one of my favorite of them.

Dwight Twilley Band - I'm On Fire (16) - wtf did this sound like again? 40. The Carpenters - Solitaire (debut) - meh 39. The Moments - Look At Me, I'm In Love (39) - meh, boring 38. Travis Womack - Love Being Your Fool (40) – I actually liked this! 37. Cat Stevens - Two Fine People (debut) – it’s okay. 36. America - Daisy Jane (debut) - LOVE this song! One of their best! This should've been a bigger hit. 35. Paul Anka - I Believe There's Nothing Stronger Than Our Love (debut) - No. Just no. 34. Van McCoy - The Hustle (11) - great song, glad this hit #1 33. Johnny Wakelin - Black Superman/Muhammad Ali (debut) - meh 32. Three Dog Night - Til The World Ends (38) – HOT BRITNEY SPEARS REMAKE! not bad, but they've had so much better 31. ZZ Top - Tush (debut) - sucks, I do like Girlschool's version though from 1981. 30. David Bowie - Fame (35) - great song! One of his best, glad this would hit #1 29. Bazuka - Dynomite (13) - meh 28. The Hudson Brothers - Rendezvous (34) – repetitive. 27. Neil Sedaka - That's When The Music Takes Me (33) – Can we EVER go a 1975 show without hearing the king of off-key? 26. Johnny Rivers - Help Me Rhonda (31) – it’s okay. 25. Amazing Rhythm Aces - Third Rate Romance (30) – THIS SUCKS. From this point on I refuse to comment on ANY song that constantly talks about a rendezvous 518 times! 24. Sweet - Ballroom Blitz (29) - great song! One of their best! 23. Michael Jackson - Just A Little Bit Of You (23) - it's good but far from his best 22. Earth, Wind & Fire - That's The Way Of The World (27) - good song! 21. Bad Company - Feel Like Making Love (25) – OVERPLAYED AS SHIT. GO AWAY. 20. Freddy Fender - Wasted Days And Wasted Nights (24) - No. Just no. 19. Tony Orlando & Dawn - Morning Beautiful (14) - geezer 13. Craptain & Tennille - Love Will Keep Us Together (17) – EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW CRAPTAIN AND TENNILLE. WHY DID THIS CRAP REBOUND? NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR THIS IN SPANISH, ENGLISH, FRENCH, ITALIAN, GERMAN, PORTUGUESE, PIG LATIN, ANYTHING! NO MATTER WHAT LANGUAGE THIS IS STILL A GEEZERLY SONG. GOD. 12. KC & the Sunshine Band - Get Down Tonight (22) - great song! One of their best 11. 10cc - I'm Not In Love (2) – EXCUSE ME?! EXCUSE ME?!?!?!?! IT WAS SAD THAT *THIS* GOT BLOCKED BY 3 DIFFERENT SONGS?! At least “One Of These Nights”, “Jive Talkin’”, and “The Hustle” are good songs – “Miracles”, the greatest song of the 70’s, got blocked by three songs too, one of them was an off-key anthem (“Bad Blood”), one of them was a geezerly anthem (“I’m Sorry”), and one of them was good but STILL NOT AS AWESOME AS QUEEN GRACE (“Island Girl”). SYMPATHIZE WITH THE QUEEN. NOT THESE TWO-HIT WONDERS. GOD. By the way I like this but prefer “The Things We Do For Love”. 10. Mike Post - Rockford Files (10) – not bad. 9. Melissa Manchester - Midnight Blue (6) – No. Just no. 8. James Taylor - How Sweet It Is (9) – LOL that was a cute story about his pet pig (well except about the pig passing away ). Great song! One of his best. Carly does background vocals on this one. 7. War - Why Can't We Be Friends (8) – No. Just no. However, this is much better than “The Cisco Kid”, although to be fair most things in life are better than that crap. 6. Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy (7) – I love this song and I don’t give a f*ck what Unkie thinks about that. 5. Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds - Fallin' In Love (15) - great song! Glad this would eventually get to #1 4. Elton John - Someone Saved My Life Tonight (5) - great song! 3. Olivia Newton-John - Please Mr. Please (3) - meh 2. Eagles - One Of These Nights (4) - great song! One of their best, and my favorite on the chart. 1. Bee Gees - Jive Talkin' (1) - great song! One of their best Chicago update: They were flopping with "Brand New Love Affair". Queens update: “MIRACLES” WOULD GO TOP 40 IN A MONTH!!!!! as for the others idk Prediction for next week: Agreed with FreakyFlyBry – 1976.
