Quite the housecleaning at the bottom of the chart takes place this week, and you've got to admit that some of the debuts this week are interesting. "Lola's Theme" is up top for a second appearance and one song is within striking distance of taking #1 in two weeks.
And surprise, surprise (for my chart anyway) - the fastest riser is Destiny's Child!
NEW TO THE CHART
AMERICAN IDIOT - Green Day
It's a bit raucous to hit my chart, at least you might think that, but occasionally I like this kind of stuff when it's well done. Their best song in years.
EVERYTHING REMINDS ME OF YOU - Jewel & Joe Firstman
This was an official download of a live duet but I can't remember where I got it from, I don't think it was instantliveconcerts.com - there's one point in this song where the voices are in such great harmony that anyone who loves duets should give a listen.
FALL BEHIND - Naomi Striemer
Everything everyone is saying is true - Naomi could slide in comfortably next to Sarah McLachlan or Evanescence. Originally signed to Sony, she left the label before her CD was released and is now shopping around a self-titled indie release. Great stuff - thanks again Ben for the tip.
GIVE IT ALL WAY - Ben Jelen
Though I love "Falling Down" (which got to #2 a few weeks back), it's taken a while for a few others from his debut CD to grow on me - but the title track has done the trick.
ROLLIN' HOME - Tyler Hilton
Whether or not you like "When It Comes" (currently #6), you should check out this worthy track from his The Tracks Of CD. Definitely a talent on the rise.
SHOOTING STAR - Deepest Blue
Finally a full CD is out in Europe from this British duo called Late September, containing "Deepest Blue" and "Give It Away" (which both hit #1 on this chart). This one is definitely more pop-oriented than on a dance tip, with a very bright melody that makes it chartable. Hopefully the full CD will see release in North America.
THEY MIGHT SAY - Mitchell Hunter
Thanks to Mike B and Ben for alerting me to this one - it's a songwriting gem and has the potential for reaching my Top 5. Support indie talent like Mitchell!
All comments are welcome!
