Yes, it's that time of year again!
Those of you who were on this board in 2006 will surely remember my obsession with "Save Tonight", a song by Eagle-Eye Cherry, which until then, I had never heard, nor even heard about, despite the fact that it reached #1 on Pop, #2 on Rock On The Net, and #5 on Billboard. It has to be my favorite song that I discovered by virtue of being a member of the board. Since then, I have heard it on the radio, but only about three or four times in the past seven years.
So, to commemorate the chart run of what is, in my opinion, the most obscure chart-topping single in radio history, I select a song to imitate its run on my chart. The single, therefore, must debut in the top 40 in the chart for the first week in September, and reach #1 in the fourth week in January.
I will consider any of your suggestions as to which song it will be, however, I do have the following eligibility requirements, in order that it be a song which properly parallels "Save Tonight."
1. The song must be one which is starting to gain momentum on the charts as of late August. It cannot be one that has already peaked. 2. The song must be one which could conceivably have a similar chart run on Pop and the Hot 100 to "Save Tonight." 3. The song should, but need not necessarily, be a pop/rock/AC song, as was "Save Tonight"; this also helps satisfy the previous requirement, as that type of song is generally most likely to have a slow, lengthy gain to the top. 4. The song must be by an artist who has never before charted on my chart or on the Hot 100. 5. The song must be by an artist unlikely to chart again (of course, this requirement is never 100% able to be satisfied in reality, but it's worth trying).
I will reveal the winner on August 29 (the day on which my chart for September 7 is posted).

Lita Ford is not eligible as she has previously charted on the Hot 100, and because the odds of her reaching the top, 40 on pop, let alone #1, are virtuallyzero.

But Tina Parol didn't go to #1

Tina Parol hadn't had a previous single anywhere. The song did flop, you're right, but it was conceivable at the time that it could have gone at least as far asthe top 10. And she never charted again.

Sort of an obvious one (at least for me), but Passenger's "Let Her Go" since it just debuted in your top 50.

Passenger is definitely eligible, and one of the songs I am already considering.

I still have until next Thursday to decide, but I am considering three songs at the moment:
Passenger, "Let Her Go" Lorde, "Royals" The Neighbourhood, "Sweater Weather"

I'd like to throw one in as well:
Midnight Red - Take Me Home
It's currently gaining momentum on Pop and is a NOW What's Next on NOW 47.

Passenger didn't quite make it, though it peaked at #3 early in the year, and has spent 51 weeks on the chart!
With August only days away, we're about to start this all over once again!
