Summer is the season for traveling, and I'll be doing plenty of it from my electronic devices as usual. I have been a geography geek since I was a kid and have always been very interested in travelling. I've been to less places than anyone I know, but hope someday to change that. For now, I just keep learning new things about cities all over the world. While I had originally planned on going to school this summer, that is no longer possible. Combine that with the fact I have a bunch of health issues to deal with, and I have a lot of time to kill this summer. Doing these things is an easy way to get my mind off of things and have some fun. I did this before, and the original thread is here. I will probably redo a few cities I have already done, such as Berlin which I feel like I did a lousy job with. As always, feel free to request cities and then tell me how I did.

The most populous city in Brazil, the Southern Hemisphere and the Western Hemisphere. It's also the 7th most populous city in the world, with over 11.3 million residents. 2) It has been called "the New York City of Brazil," and with good reason. It is a multicultural city that features large numbers of people from Italian, Portuguese, African, Arab, Japanese and other descents. While there are plenty of ethnic districts, much of the population is assimilated. 3) The city consumes around 1 million pizzas per day! 4) Sรฃo Paulo's gay pride parade is the largest on earth. 5) It has the 3rd highest density of buildings in the world. Looking at the photos, it's easy to see why. 6) Like much of South America, it enjoys a warm climate throughout the year. 7) Billboards are illegal here, thanks the clean city law. The government considers them "visual pollution."

Good way to start this off ;D
I wouldn't mind visiting Brazil sometime, and Sao Paulo would be a great way of experiencing it. Surprised it's THAT big though, considering it's underrated on the world stage.

Thanks! From what I've seen/read, Buffalo isn't nearly as bad as people like to make it out to be. But just stay away from the East (and West) Side-- Oh, and downtown after 9PM. LOL...sounds like most American cities. My dad did a lot of work in Buffalo back around 2000-2002 and he told me it was a very rough city from what he experienced. He told me that one time, some Rent a Center guys went to one of the bad neighborhoods to reclaim a washing machine, and the guy shoved it down the apartment stairs at them. ;D Good way to start this off ;D I wouldn't mind visiting Brazil sometime, and Sao Paulo would be a great way of experiencing it. Surprised it's THAT big though, considering it's underrated on the world stage. Yeah, I feel like Rio de Janeiro overshadows it in a major way. It's definitely more popular with tourists, and is much more famous as well. I do think that Sao Paulo has its own charm though, and I'd love to go there someday.

June 2nd, 2013 - Chicago, Illinois, United StatesDaley Plaza: Soldier Field, home of the NFL's Chicago Bears: Rock and Roll McDonald's: Sears Tower...errr...Willis Tower, as it's now called: Looking down from the top of the tower: The Harbor Lighthouse: 7 Facts About Chicago:1) It is home to around 2.7 million residents, making it the third most populous city in the United States. Only New York and Los Angeles are home to more people. 2) The city enjoys all four seasons, with average highs ranging from 32F (0C) in January to 84F (29C) in July. 3) It is home to the world's largest public library. 4) The Dan Ryan expressway (Interstate 90/94) in Chicago is the most heavily trafficked highway in the country. 5) Chicago boasts five "big four" pro sports teams: the Bears of the NFL, the Blackhawks of the NHL, the Bulls of the NBA as well as both the Cubs and White Sox of Major League Baseball. 6) In 1871, much of the city was destroyed in what is now known as the Great Chicago Fire. While this was a truly tragic event, the rebuilding process was instrumental in transforming Chicago into a world-renowned city. 7) Barack Obama, Cindy Crawford, Kathy Griffin, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Wilkos and Dwayne Wade all hail from the windy city.

My only time in Chicago so far was a flight transfer at O'Hare Airport, but I'd love to properly explore Chicago sometime. Of course, shopping is a main attraction there, especially along the Magnificent Mile. The fact that they completely rebuilt the city after a fire destroyed it is astonishing, but just shows how strong their spirit was. Would be interesting to see the water tower that survived the fire! It really is, above all, a city of neighbourhoods, and I'm sure a lot of them outside the Loop would be worth exploring. Also, the flow of the Chicago River was totally reversed in an astonishing feat of engineering, redirecting its flow towards the Mississippi River instead of Lake Michigan. And of course, who could forget the Chicago Theatre, with its landmark marquee sign? It's also a city with a rich history in entertainment, especially given the celebrity names that you gave. Also of note: aside from the cursed Cubs, who haven't won the World Series in over 100 years, all of their other professional sports teams have won championships in my lifetime. Would love to see it from the top of the Sears... oops, Willis Tower. And Navy Pier sounds like it would be interesting to see as well. There is also a lot of public scuplture in Chicago, but Cloud Gate a.k.a. "The Bean" would be the one I'd most want to see.

This is one of those common cases where FlyBry knows way more about the city than I do...looks like I better go back to doing cities like Minsk. Haha, but in all seriousness, great stuff. I somehow never knew that a water tower had survived the fire, but that would certainly be worth checking out. The "city of neighborhoods" concept is something appealing about Chicago, especially where ethnic neighborhoods have been preserved, such as the Ukrainian village. As an NBA fan, I would have loved to watch the Bulls dominate the NBA back in the '90s, but I was just a little kid when that was going down. I would have also loved to see the '85 Bears. And Jessie....I was focusing on relevant people. We all know Steve Wilkos is far more notable than Grace Slick. ;D
