The arrival of IDJ’s Believe occurs Justin time for music retailers around the country, with impressive one-day sales turning them into true Beliebers.
That’s right, the young teenpop star’s new album, his third (if you don’t count last year’s holiday album, Under the Mistletoe), will debut at #1 next week with between 420-440k in sales, his best individual total to date, and the highest of the year. Madonna’s MDNA held the previous mark when it bowed with nearly 360k in sales back in March. My World 2.0, his previous high, sold 283k when it came out March, 2010.
Kenny Chesney’s first release for his new Blue Chair imprint through Columbia Nashville, Welcome to the Fishbowl, will debut at #2 with an estimated 185-210k.
Epic’s latest Fiona Apple opus, the elegantly titled The Idler Wheel is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do, is looking at a first-week total of 65-70k amid rave reviews.
Smashing Pumpkins’ Oceania, Billy Corgan’s latest iteration of the band through Martha's Music/EMI Label Services, is looking at a not-bad-at-all 45-50k.
Five Seven ska-reggae-hip-hop-alt rockers Dirty Heads’ sophomore album, Cabin by the Sea, the follow-up to 2008’s surprise hit, Any Port in a Storm, looks to be in the 20-25k range
Album sales were up 10% vs. last week, down 8% vs. same week last year and down 3% year to date.
Track sales were flat vs. last week, up 1% vs. same week last year and up 6% year to date.
TEA sales are up 7% vs. last week, down 5% vs. same week last year and flat year to date.

Justin Bieber will score his best-ever first week, while Kenny Chesney looks to top the 183.5k first week of his last album, 2010's Hemingway's Whiskey. Country music dominates the Top 15 this week with six, maybe seven, of the titles coming out of Nashville. One Direction, one of this year's biggest success stories, sees a slight bump in sales, possibly from the Bieber traffic in the stores. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
*Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 400-425k *Kenny Chesney (Blue Chair/Columbia Nashville) 190-210k *Fiona Apple (Epic) 65-70k Usher (RCA) 50-55k Adele (XL/Columbia) 50-55k Rock of Ages (WaterTower) 45-50k *Smashing Pumpkins (Martha's Music/EMI Label Services) 45-50k One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 40-45k Rush (Roadrunner) 27-30k Alan Jackson (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 25-28k Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 24-27k Josh Turner (MCA Nashville) 23-27k *Dirty Heads (Five Seven) 20-23k Now Country 5 (UMe) 20-23k Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 18-21k Lionel Richie (Mercury Nashville) 18-21k John Mayer (Columbia) 18-21k
*Debuts
