Commentary
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
- Another fun week for the band fun. as they score their third week at #1 on both the Top 100 and Album charts this week. We Are Young is now the longest running #1 of the year. Meanwhile, Some Nights trails behind Kathleen Edwards' Voyageur (5 weeks) for the longest #1 album of 2012.
- More fun news: with multiple album tracks charting this week, fun. moves up a collective 79 positions with four songs, three of which move 20+ positions each. Meanwhile, they also score an additional two debuts as well bringing their current charting total to seven this week.
- Bruce Springsteen earns his highest charting album on the Max Album chart as Wrecking Ball comes in at #3. His previous peak was in 2007 when Greatest Hits made an appearance on the chart.
- Sondre Lerche breaks a notable record as his 6th studio album Sondre Lerche becomes his sixth Platinum album as certified by The Max. He becomes the male act with the most platinum albums, besting out David Usher who he had previous tied with five. While David has had several blockbuster albums, two records at 5x Platinum, Sondre has only one multiple platinum album but his total tally brings him to nearly 1000 plays.^
^ my certification system is based on iTunes plays with approximations for other means of listening (CD, radio, etc) as well as approximations for periods pre-2007. Albums that receive a combined total of 100 plays earn a Platinum certification.
To compare some of the top solo male acts in my chart history:
Sondre Lerche has five Platinum albums (at least 500 plays total) plus a third platinum album (at least 300 plays) plus additional airplay that would give him nearly 1000 total career plays.
David Usher has two 5x Platinum albums, a 3x Platinum album, two additional Platinums and two Golds, for a cumulative total of well over 1600 career plays.
Jason Mraz has had a 4x Platinum, a 3x Platinum, a 2x Platinum and a Gold album, plus additional plays giving him over 1000 career plays.
