The singles chart this week contains the most pleasing chart surprise of the year so far. Fun and Janelle Monae make a five place leap to the top, with "We Are Young" dethroning the lame "Ass Back Home" which reigned for only one week. Gym Class Heroes held #1 on the iTunes chart for five of the seven days for this chart week, but the last two days were apparently enough for Fun, so it's happy joy time for good music! Nicki Minaj makes a six place jump to four with "Starships" but Fun look set for a second week on top.
Skrillex hits the top ten with "Bangarang" jumping to nine, up three spots. And with live shows this week in Australia, Skrillex could go even higher which would be insanely weird. Also insane and weird is that people still give a shit about Taio Cruz. The awful "Troublemanker" is the biggest mover of the week, racing up 27 places to sit at eleven. It'll be top ten next week, ewwww. Far East Movement and Justin Bieber jump to 27 with "Live My Life", Knife Party rebound 18 places to a new peak of 32 with the "100% No Modern Talking EP" and Lil Wayne is up eight to 37 with "Mirror".
There's only one new entry to the top fifty, and that's "Call Me Maybe" from Carly Rae Jepsen, which enters at 39.
On the albums chart, Adele is number one yet again, which makes it 31 weeks now. Awesome! One Direction hype continues to surround the country, and "Up All Night" surges to a new peak of two on the back of this. Two albums also manage top ten debuts, Last Dinosaurs at eight with the excellent "In A Million Years" and Troy Cassar-Daly at nine with "Home".
The biggest mover of the week is a tie, nineteen place rises go to Bon Iver with "Bon Iver" up to 17, and Taylor Swift, who is up to 19 with "Speak Now". Tour hype wins the day once more.
Aside from those two top ten debuts, we have three more. Bob Seger is in at 18 with "Ultimate Hits". Every Time I Die come in at 46 with "Ex Lives". And Steel Panther stupidly and belatedly scrape in at 50 with "Balls Out". Taylor Swift has two more albums re-enter the top fifty, while Jessie J, The Wombats, Foo Fighters and The Jezabels also all make returns.
