On the singles chart we see Flo Rida and Sia remain on top for a sixth week with "Wild Ones". The entire top three is unchanged, leaving the Gym Class Heroes/Neon Hitch crapfest at two, while 360 and Gossling are again at three. With "Ass Back Home" taking over the top place on iTunes a few days ago, it looks as though this might be the last week on top for "Wild Ones", but I personally hope not. "Ass Back Home" is, well, ass.
Below the stagnant top three, big changes are afoot in the top ten. Positions four through seven are all new peaks, and all are songs shooting up from outside the top ten. And they're all pretty much terrible too. Qwote jumps seven places to sit at four with "Throw Your Hands Up". Katy Perry races seventeen places to five with "Part of Me". Nobody seems to mind that she's just releasing the same song again and again. Woman Basher and general Worthless Human Being Chris Brown is up seven places to six with "Turn Up The Music", and Jason DeRulo trashes an absolute classic song to score the biggest jump of the week, a twenty place rise for "Fight For You" sees it sit at seven. So yeah, the Qwote thing is basically the best of those, which is just scary. Our charts are getting sucky again.
One Direction announced an April tour of Australia this week, and that helps their debut single "What Makes You Beautiful" rebound six places to 13. Next single "One Thing" falls this week, but since it's now hit our iTunes top ten, look for it to be rising quite well next week. Fun and Janelle Monae race up eighteen spots to 23 with "We Are Young", and with that now in the iTunes top ten too, it should have another strong gain next week. And Train jump seven places to 29 with "Drive By".
Nicki Minaj throws about seventeen different genres and musical styles at her latest track to see what works, the result is that nothing works but people like "Starships" anyway and it enters the top fifty at 14. The only other new entry to the top fifty is Labrinth with "Earthquake" at 41. Foster The People re-enter at 47 with "Call It What You Want" and "Party Rock Anthem" is back too, at 49.
On the albums chart, Adele is queen again, with "21" on top for a 29th week. Lana Del Rey is steady at two, while Whitney Houston jumps nine places to three with "The Ultimate Collection". She's also up thirteen to seven with "The Essential" and down seven places to ten with "The Greatest Hits" giving her three top ten entries. Bruno Mars is back in the top ten too, "Doo Wops & Hooligans" jumps seven places to four. The Skrillex "Bangarang EP" is at a new peak of six.
Their tour of Australia gives Roxette the biggest jump of the week, "Hits" races up 22 spots to land at 17. Kelly Clarkson jumps eight places to 19 with "Stronger", while Skrillex is up ten to 31 with "Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites". Emeli Sande also makes a strong jump, up fourteen places to 32 with "Our Version Of Events".
There's only one top fifty debut this week, Band Of Skulls are in at 35 with "Sweet Sour". Pink Floyd, Lady GaGa, Florence And The Machine and Nicki Minaj all make top fifty re-entries.
