On the singles chart things don't change at the very top, with Flo Rida and Sia reigning for a third week with "Wild Ones". And it shows no sign of slowing down, looking set for a fourth next week. But below them there's a tonne of movement throughout the chart, caused by the JJJ Hottest 100, the revealing of which led to a major sales increase for many of the big hits featured on it.
The Black Keys came in at #2 on the H100 with "Lonely Boy", and now that song matches that position on the real chart, with a thirteen place jump. Matt Corby hit #3 on the H100 with "Brother", and he matches that position on the real chart with his "Into The Flame EP" (which features "Brother") jumping five spots. 360 and Gossling race up fifteen places scoring the biggest move of the week, with "Boys Like You" (H100 #8) now at four. Hilltop Hoods and Sia jump up five places to six with "I Love It" (H100 #10), giving the Hoods their biggest chart hit to date. The mega-hit "Somebody That I Used To Know" (H100 #1) from Gotye and Kimbra rebounds eight places to thirteen. And in the only really significant gain not related to the H100, Qwote jumps nine places to 28 with "Throw Your Hands Up".
Nine songs either re-enter the top fifty, or reach it for the first time, and eight of these are H100 related as well. Lana Del Rey is currently already charting with "Born To Die", and now "Video Games" (H100 #6) enters at #23. San Cisco come in at #32 with "Awkward" (H100 #7), and right behind at #33 is "Tongue Tied" (H100 #16) from Grouplove. Both bands are in the top fifty for the first time. Nero re-enters the fifty at #36 with "Promises" (H100 #19), M83 are new to the top fifty with "Midnight City" (H100 #5) at 37 and Foster The People score a follow-up to recent chart topper "Pumped Up Kicks" with "Call It What You Want" (H100 #14) in at 39. Rihanna didn't make the H100, but she's in at 42 with latest single "Talk That Talk". Boy & Bear return to the top fifty at 46 with "Feeding Line" (H100 #4) and The Jezabels are back in at 49 with "Endless Summer" (H100 #9).
All these big rises mean some big falls occur this week, but since all these rises are mostly going to be short-lived, there'll be some big falls next week too.
On the albums chart, there's a new #1 album. Foster The People have dethroned Adele, with "Torches" notching up its first week on top after 37 weeks in the top fifty. This pushes "21" down to two, currently sitting with 27 weeks at #1. The Black Keys reach a new peak of three with "El Camino", 360 is at a new high of four with "Flying And Falling", and Boy And Bear rebound to five with "Moonfire". The "Bangarang EP" from Skrillex hits a new high of six, while Gotye's "Making Mirrors" is back in the top ten at seven, as is the Triple J Like A Version 7 compilation, in at ten.
Lower down, Grouplove enjoy a good week here too, with their album "Never Trust A Happy Song" up eight spots to 28. The Wombats get the biggest move, with "This Modern Glitch" rising 15 to 31. And "Watch The Throne" from Jay-Z and Kanye West is up nine to 35.
Five albums are new to the top fifty this week, the highest is "Emotional Traffic" from Tim McGraw which is in at 14. Right behind at 15 is John Williamson with "The Big Red". It's not an album about tomato sauce, presumably. Metallica debut at 19 with the "Beyond Magnetic EP". The Rod Stewart Stroryteller Anthology from a million years ago is finally released in Australia, and so it debuts at 24. And First Aid Kit enter at 36 with "The Lion's Roar".
Plenty of albums re-enter the top fifty too, with Nero at 32, M83 at 42, Kanye West at 43, The Jezabels at 45, Drapht at 48 and Nicki Minaj at 50.
