NOT even the drowning death of a crew member on a yacht where Usher's mom, Jonnetta Paton, hosted a "Welcome to Miami" party for her son could dampen the high spirits at the MTV Video Music Awards in Miami. The tragedy happened when crew member Craig Rochel, 34, who lived and worked on the boat, went diving late Friday night while Usher partied aboard the 146-foot Gray Mist III. The 70 guests included Usher's team and the yacht's owner, private jet entrepreneur John Kaufman. The victim was described by sources as an experienced diver who frequently made night expeditions. No one noticed he was missing until the morning. Rochel's body was discovered Saturday afternoon about 100 yards from the yacht, washed up on the rocky shore near the chichi Fisher Island Beach Club, where diners had eaten lunch unaware of the nearby corpse. When PAGE SIX's Tom Sykes asked Usher about the death at his post-VMA party at Ian Schrager's Shore Club, the star said he didn't know anything, and added, "I'm not responsible." "I'm not responsible"?

By no means is Usher responsible. He didn't own the boat, and the man went diving at his own risk.

I agree the man was responsible for his own life and took the risk. I don't think Usher is important to this really.

It's obvious that he's not responsible, but he didn't have to say it like that. I mean, a man just died. At least show some sympathy.
