So thoughts? The song exploded today on iTunes and radio.

It's really good. I love the lyrics, and the song just makes me happy.

It's a good song, but reminds me a lot of "Express Yourself" by Madonna. Still, it'll be huge (isn't it already?)
I do expect it probably won't be as well-remembered as, say, "Poker Face" or "Bad Romance" in 5 years though.

Before hearing this song (just now, for the first time), I had heard that it bore a striking resemblance to Madonna's late 80s hit, "Express Yourself." When listening, I expected to hear a a carbon copy of "Express Yourself." I didn't. I could hear echoes of it in "Born This Way," but it's far from anything to cause the sort of uproar I had read about earlier today. I find the lyrics to be uplifting, but bordering on trite. Overall, I think it's a good song. But to me, it doesn't match any of the material from the debut album and the special edition. Given her flashy reputation, I expected more of an "in-your-face" lead single. But there's nothing wrong with a nice little feel-good song!

I've seen quite a few comparisons to "Express Yourself", some of them outright accusing this of being a rip-off...and the more I see people making the comparisons, the more I feel like people are using that as an excuse to justify not totally liking it. I don't think it's totally devoid of "in-your-face" elements, but I do think if it was totally "in-your-face", it might've risked tanking. As it stands, I think it straddles that line between "in-your-face" and "feel-good" just enough. The only way I see this underperforming is if naysayers make it so.

I think this song itself will go down as being a "moment" in pop music history because of the incredible hype built up beforehand, how huge it was upon its first day, and the subject matter.

With just 2 days of airplay the song impacts at #19 on Mediabase's pop chart. It should be higher on Billboard since they go Monday-Sunday
