Nobody will be surprised to hear than once again John Mayer is on top of the chart. It's a change though, as 'Heartbreak Warfare' dethrones 'Who Says' to score its second week at number one. They've each had two, but with 'Heartbreak' the current single, and receiving more airplay, it looks like it will end up with a bigger tally. Sam Clark again holds at three, and The Script and Dashboard Confessional switch to round out the top five, but it's all about the John Mayer tracks in the battle for number one at the moment.
Places 6-9 all see new peaks, as GaGa/Beyonce, Paramore, Panic At The Disco and Jason DeRulo all climb this week. With 'Brick By Boring Brick' jumping into the top ten and landing at seven, Paramore have now scored their highest ever charting single, due to a late chart start. 'Misery Business' should have been a top five hit, but it wasn't, so 'Brick' is their best performer. Other significant gains this week come from Vampire Weekend (up nine places,) Bon Jovi (up five,) Passion Pit (up six,) and Mumford And Sons (up eight.) The biggest move of the week goes to last week's biggest debut however. Train debuted at 24 with 'Hey Soul Sister,' and this week that position is halved as they race up to twelve. On the verge of scoring their second ever top ten hit, nearly nine years after the first, can 'Hey Soul Sister' do that next week?
There are two re-entries this week and four debuts. The two re-entries are the highest, so we begin there. And for the third time in four weeks we have a song re-entering that has been out of the chart for quite a long time, and once again it's an under-performing single from a previously highly successful artist. Following in the footsteps of The Fray and Panic At The Disco is Colbie Caillat. In the middle of last year, 'Fallin For You' charted for two weeks, scoring a lowly peak of 42. But this week, it makes a shocking return, scoring a new peak of 29. Can it follow in the footsteps of 'Never Say Never' and 'New Perspective' which made grand re-entries, and followed that up with a jump into the top ten. It's less likely for Colbie, but she did get a top three hit with 'Bubbly' so it's possible. The second re-entry only departed our chart three weeks ago, and it's The Gossip with 'Love Long Distance.' It returns at 31, not far short of its peak of 24.
The first debut is from Gabriella Cilmi. She hit the top ten in 2008 with 'Sweet About Me,' and debuts here with 'On A Mission' at 36. Not far behind her are Powderfinger, who enter with their latest 'Burn Your Name' at 38. The third debut is from previously mentioned The Fray, who are at 44 with current single 'Syndicate,' being completely overshadowed at present by 'Never Say Never.' The final entry is from former top tenner Kesha, who with the help of 3Oh!3 debuts at 50 with 'Blah Blah Blah.'
On the ineligible chart this week, we finally see a new number one. The All-American Rejects debut on top with 'It Ends Tonight,' appropriately titled, as they've ended Panic At The Disco's four week run on top. Strong debuts come from Jet, Shakira, Queen and The Gossip.
