Hi 'someone reading', i PMed Drew who read my pm but never replied... So here's my pm/problem for you, if someone can help me ..? Thank you.
I have a question about an external HD (actually external enclosure with an internal Hard Drive).
Its from the Akasa brand (Akasa Integral, for 3.5'' IDE hard drive)
we put our HD in there, plugged it in the USB thingy, turned the button on and the first time the computer recognized it, but nothing shows up in 'my computer'. We restarted the computer, but nothing works ? Even unplugging and plugging it back in doesnt work.
There is a CD with it and a little book but it says 'if the installed hard drive has not already been formatted, in order for the computer to recognize the drive, it must be initialized, partitioned and formatted'. THATS BULLSH!T.
My sister and her husband have an external HD and i've used it before on my old pc and all you had to do was plugging it in and pushing the button and it would recognize it and you could open it like a cd or something. Really easy !! It takes all the point off of it if you have to format your HD everytime you wanna transfer files from one PC to another, since you're losing all of them by having to 'format' it !!
Can you help us ? We might try on someone else's computer to see if its the computer, but its a brand new computer (XP tho) and we only just bought that sh!tty external enclosure. If at the end we have to go back to PC World and they tell us we 'have' to format it then i'll just give it back to them because they sold us something that is not what we thought it'd be, we'll just buy a proper one in france, CHEAPER and that you dont have to install. My sis' husband is a computer freak so he knows what he's talking about (not expert but close!). And it doesnt make sense to have to format it everytime you plug it in..
