My old hard drive crashed - the computer just didn't read it at all. Dell sent me a new one, but I'm kinda not wanting to lose all my info.
So they gave me a few companies to call about it, and when I called two and asked for a price range, they said anywhere from 500 to 2500 - and that I was likely to pay 1600-2000 bucks.
Um...all I want is to get my pics and music off the computer. The music more than anything.
There has to be a cheaper alternative - know any?

I assume you have a more moder computer than my old windows 98 lol. What my cousin did was to connect this thing from the old computer to the new one,, and tte new computer just read the old hard drive, as just another drive, so I could copy all the info, it was fast. However, I also heard that if you were using XP SP2, there's another way to pass the info to Vista with just one cable. Sorry I can't give you specifics, buut it shouldn't cost you that much, it was free for me! Just so you know
