A 22-year-old Georgetown man was jailed on rape charges after a videotape was found allegedly depicting him having sex with a 15-month-old toddler in his care, police said Wednesday.
After the discovery of the tape, authorities took the victim to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where an examination revealed injuries consistent with those sustained in a rape. Police confirmed that the child is back in the custody of the mother, but would not disclose where they are now.
Georgetown police charged Theodore M. Morris, a resident of the Best Value Inn, on Tuesday with first-degree rape, sexual exploitation of a child, possession of child pornography, one count of felony endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child and incest.
Morris is being held in the Sussex Correctional Institution after failing to post $89,500 cash bail.
Georgetown police Sgt. Michael Barlow said a girlfriend of Morris' alerted police after she found the unmarked videocassette and popped it into the recorder to view.
"As soon as she realized what was on it she called 911," Barlow said.
On the tape Morris allegedly made, he appears to be having sex with the toddler, Barlow said.
"I can't tell you how graphic it is," he said.
Two other children were in the room at the time but reportedly were sleeping when the sexual assault occurred.
Georgetown police went to the motel to arrest Morris, but he was not there. Police said in court records that he left after a confrontation with the victim's mother during which he denied having sex with the child.
Morris was arrested a short time later by Millsboro police, Barlow said.
Police said Morris told them he was the one on the tape having intercourse with the child.
The incident allegedly occurred about a month ago, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to call Barlow at 856-6613.

That is horrible.
I feel very sorry for that poor baby. This is just sick.
