I don't have an online source to quote, because this phone interview took place Friday morning during the morning show on my Pop station.
You may remember about rumors surfacing when Chilli & Usher broke up before Usher's album release. There were various reasons speculated about why that break-up occurred. One of the prominent rumors was that Usher had cheated on Chilli and gotten the girl pregnant. This seemed to be confirmed when the song, "Confessions Part 2" and it's accompanying interlude appeared on the album...which, of course, is also called Confessions.
When asked Friday morning if she was upset that her "ex" was selling albums and making money off of something that happened in their personal lives, Chilli vehemently denied that any of Usher's claims on the "Confessions" album are true. She said "if people would take time to do the math, they would realize that the 'Confessions' album had been long completed before their break-up ever occurred. He never cheated on me. He didn't get anyone pregnant! None of it's true." She went on to say that the only thing she's upset with Usher about is that he's had several chances to set the record straight and end speculation about the reasons why they broke up, but instead he's chosen to let people continue believing all of the rumors.
Incidentally, she never actually said during the interview why they ended their relationship, but the likely reason is that they were at different places in their lives. The older Chilli was ready to settle down and start a family, while Usher evidentally wasn't ready to do that. I think he's at least 10 years younger than she is.
My take on the topic: I think the speculation about their breakup may have initially caused some people to buy the album, but I think "Confessions" has been the success it's been because the songs are really good. Not to mention the fact that the label has made excellent choices as far as releasing the right singles to radio to promote the album. It's unfortunate that some people believe Usher cheated on Chilli, but it's not his responsibility to correct those people, despite what Chilli thinks. Their personal lives aren't our business, so let the public think what they want. As long as they both know what really happened, what difference does it make to either Usher or Chilli what other people think?
