10. "My Humps" - Black Eyed Peas While never released as a proper single, this track from "Monkey Business" became the only album cut this year to hit #1 on my chart, where it stayed for 1 week on November 12.
9. "1, 2 Step" - Ciara / Missy Elliott In 2004, Ciara's debut single "Goodies" featuring Petey Pablo spent a remarkable 12 weeks at the #1 spot. Her second single only manged 2 weeks there, February 12 and 19. Another one of my favorite songs this year.
8. "DARE" - Gorillaz The first virtual band to hit #1, and the only non-American artist to do so this year, they spent 3 weeks there this fall (October 8, 15 and 22) with their second single off "Demon Days." Their first single, "Feel Good Inc.", failed to crack the top spot, and remained halted at #2 for 12 weeks this summer.
7. "Stickwitu" - Pussycat Dolls The second single off their debut "PCD" album, the Vegas burlesque troupe spent the weeks of November 26, December 3 and December 10 at #1 on my chart with this track.
6. "Let Me Love You" - Mario This slow R&B track off Mario's second album, "Turning Point", became the first #1 single of the year, hitting the top spot on January 15.

WOW @ "Stickwitu." It's only been out since this fall, and it's already a top 10 year-end smash! Go, dolls! ;D
GO MARIO!!!
Nice to see the Gorillaz, Ciara (her best single, IMO!), and BEP in the top 10!
Top 5 is going to be interesting, indeed!

5. "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" - Green Day This second single off "American Idiot" proved much more successful than the first. While the title track barely made the top 50, "Boulevard" hit #1 on February 26, and remained there for 4 weeks.
4. "Hung Up" - Madonna 2004 was the only year that Madonna failed to make an appearance on my chart, and earlier this year, it looked like she wouldn't have a hit in 2005 either. However, as soon as it was announced that Madonna would be releasing "Confessions On A Dancefloor" in November, we all knew she'd have a #1, and that's just what happened. Closing out the year, she started her run at the top with "Hung Up" on December 17, and has yet to be interrupted. One of my favorite dance tracks this year.
3. "Hollaback Girl" - Gwen Stefani The first single to pass the 1,000,000 mark in downloads, and one of the most defining songs of 2005 in pop music. Somewhat unusual for a third single, but this release off "Love, Angel, Music, Baby" quickly started to climb up the chart this spring, reaching #1 on May 14, and spending the next 5 weeks there.
2. "Since U Been Gone" - Kelly Clarkson I hated this song. Hated it with a passion. But the truth remains: it was a huge hit this year. Its high Billboard rankings and continuous Z-100 airplay caused it to peak at #1 on March 26, where it remained for the next 7 weeks.
[The #1 song of 2005 will be revealed tomorrow.]

Great Top 5, I think I have a slight idea what #1 might be.. I can't believe you hate the Kelly Clarkson song; it's one of her best I think and puts her head and shoulders above any previous pop idol winner. Perhaps overplay killed it for you, but I have to admit that no matter how much I hear that song I never get tired of it. Great chart though Sebastian, happy new year!

Your top 5, so far, is just stellar. I love every single song! And I must say, I am delighted to see Kelly Clarkson at #2. I think it's well-deserved!
MADONNA managed to make your top 5 in just a few months of release! That's STAR power! ;D
GWENNY-GWEN-GWEN! You work it, girl! ;D

1. "Don't Cha" - Pussycat Dolls / Busta Rhymes
Unquestionably the best song of 2005, and without a doubt the best new artist this year. This one dominated the airwaves from June through October, spending a record-shattering 16 weeks at #1. My favorite song this year, and quite possibly my favorite since the days of Salt 'N Pepa.

And now....my list of the greatest songs of 2005 that didn't chart....or did, but barely.
1. "Call On Me" - Eric Prydz Great dance song. Great video. The problem was, I didn't even know it existed until about 4 weeks ago. If I'd known about it, no doubt it'd be a top 10 song.
2. "Unwritten" - Natasha Bedingfield This track did chart, peaking at #91, but lost its bullet in its 3rd week on my chart, and since I don't allow re-entries, it was never eligible again. However, I liked it a lot more than "These Words."
3. "If It's Lovin' That You Want" - Rihanna Same case as "Unwritten" - it peaked at #87 in its 2nd week on my chart, lost its bullet the next week, and so it was gone. Great song though - just as great as "Pon de Replay."
4. "Here I Go Again" - Mario I just overlooked this one, good as it might have been. Simple as that.
5. "New York" - Ja Rule / Fat Joe / Jadakiss One of my favorite rap songs this year, once again, just simply overlooked at first.

It's funny, back in the 80's I used to write up a chart that was personal but based about 50% on outside influences. Songs I hated got to #1, so I gave up that method in favour of something more personal.
And gosh, a no re-entry rule?? A shame that "Unwritten" does not get another opportunity on your chart. If I had that rule, my #1 song of 1999 ("Millennium" by Robbie Williams, which debuted in January 1999) would not have re-entered the chart in June upon North American release!!

What a solid top 4! Although SUBG, Holla, or Hung Up I think would be more fitting for #1.
But still. Solid year end show!
