Kelly Clarkson spent over 100 weeks in the Top 10 consecutively on the pop chart so it got me wondering some of my records from my chart.
Here's what I found!
These are the Top 5 artists with the longest consecutive Top 40 run for my MT40 chart. Now, back in the 90s, because I didn't get many CDs (that's what my MT40 chart is limited to, CDs I own), artists would sometimes have strings of singles from their albums. (ie. chantal kreviazuk's and alanis morissette's first albums both had 11 Top 40 hits)
Anyway, here are the longest runs for an artist:
#5
From January 2002 until April 2004 Jewel charted for a total of 155 weeks with the following singles:
Standing Still
Break Me
This Way
Serve The Ego
Till We Run Out Of Road
Intuition
Stand
2 Become 1
#4
From March 1996 until April 1999 (over three years), Celine Dion charted for 163 weeks with the following:
Because You Loved Me
Des Mots Qui Sonnent
It's All Coming Back To Me Now
Fly
All By Myself
To Love You More
Call The Man
Dreamin' Of You
Falling Into You
Tell Him
My Heart Will Go On
Immortality
Vole
Miles To Go (Before I Sleep)
Let's Talk About Love
Je Sais Pas
I'm Your Angel
#3
From May 1998 until July 2001, Alanis Morissette charted for 167 weeks with the following:
Uninvited
Mary Jane
Thank U
Joining You
Unsent
So Pure
That I Would Be Good
Sympathetic Character
Princes Familiar
King Of Pain
These R The Thoughts
No Pressure Over Cuppiccino
UR
#2
This one surprised me a bit because it's by a relative newcomer to my chart compared to the rest of the Top 5.
From September 2001 until December 2004 for 173 weeks, David Usher charted with the following:
Alone In The Universe
Black Black Heart v.2
A Day In The Life
My Way Out
Blinded
Too Close To The Sun
Forest Fire
Time Of Our Lives
Surfacing
Hallucinations
#1
I'm sure most people won't be surprised by #1 as I wasn't but the total number of weeks surprised me. The last time I compiled this list was back in 2003 when the number was around 189 weeks or something.
Obviously, the artist with the longest consecutive weeks is Chantal Kreviazuk who charted from May 1999 until November 2005, which is over FIVE years, and she almost lasted for half of the decade of the 2000s! A total of 345 weeks of charting nonstop! She did it with the following:
Disagree
Feels Like Home
Before You
Dear Life
Souls
Far Away
Blue
Dealer
This Year
O Holy Night
Leading Me Home
Another Small Adventure
In This Life
Time
Redemption Song
Julia
What If It All Means Something
Waiting
Miss April
Ready For Your Love
I Want You To Know
These Days
