I'll add a few more to my list. Green Day"American Idiot" reached #42, and was followed with "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", which was #1 for 3 weeks. The Killers"Somebody Told Me" only got to #39, but "Mr. Brightside" was #1 for 2 weeks. U2"All Because of You" got to #25, but "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" spent a single week at #1. Snow Patrol"You're All I Have" got to #36 (and "Hands Open" failed to chart), but "Chasing Cars" was #1 for 3 weeks. BeyoncΓ©"Ring The Alarm" only reached #33, but "Irreplaceable" was #1 for a single week. Gwen Stefani"Wind It Up" got to #33, but "The Sweet Escape" was #1 for 3 weeks. FergieFollowing a DNC, a #25 and a #20, "Big Girls Don't Cry" got #1 for a single week. Linkin Park"Bleed It Out" got to #67, but "Shadow Of The Day" spent 4 weeks at #1. Jonas BrothersNone of their previous singles made it past #44, but "When You Look Me In The Eyes" got to #1.

Maybe U2 usually does well on his chart so anything lower than below average is a flop. But if U2 don't typically hit Top 10 then I wouldn't call a #25 a flop.

My most recent #1 is one of these:
Ellie Goulding -Hanging On (below #90) -Anything Could Happen (#1)
While technically not a followup to a flop, No Doubt did have a #1 following a below #90 peak as well: Stand And Deliver (below #90 a few years ago) Settle Down (#1)
