Did y'all know that the Grammy eligibility date has now officially come and gone? Gosh, the year just flew by, didn't it?
With that said, what are your feelings at this point? Are there any sure bets? What tracks absolutely stand out this year, and should get nominated?

PJ Harvey should be nominated, every music critic knows she is one of the best in the genere, but she hasn't been nominated (At least not that I know) maybe this year will be her year, she was nominated for the shortlist music prize after all. Björk, I think she has a nomination along with PJ on best alternative performance, so i hope she gets the nod. Tori Amos, my loved Tori! she released Welcome to sunny Florida (yeah, crap title) and it came with an EP, and last year came out Tales of a Librarian, so she might be lucky. If she is nominated, I might forgive the grammys for ignoring Scarlet's walk Even when the latin grammies exist, the american grammys still have some spanish categories, so Ely Guerra should get nominated! and I bet that Cafe Tacuba and Julieta Venegas will achieve that... not that I like Cafe Tacuba or anything. Ok, I prefer male singers, but all these comments have been about women... Well, Chris Isaak didn't release anything this year, Dan Wilson, well, is there a nomination for EP's? his was very good (despite Sheryl Crow making backing vocals in a song). Dave Matthews won last year with Gravedigger!! so I highly doubt he will be nominated again for Save me or Oh. I also hope to see some love for Lonestar, Sarah McLachlan (that's a given), Live, Eros Ramazzotti, Kevin Max, Morrissey or Stereophonics. Did anyone read that??

For Best New Artist, I'm seeing Joss Stone and Maroon 5 as the main contenders. And I can't see Brandy's amazing CD, "Afrodisiac", going without at least a nomination, especially considering it got across the board fantastic reviews. Alicia Keys and Norah Jones...I think they'll be competing against one another this year. I see it happening. Avril Lavigne will undoubtedly get some nominations. Vanessa Carlton deserves at least one nomination for "White Houses", but I find it quite easy for it to be overlooked. Britney Spears might get something this year. "Toxic" is her strongest, and "Everytime" also has a good chance. Usher will get some nods. Sarah McLachlan is not likely to go home empty-handed. And maybe Dido will get something as well. Sheryl and Alanis might be competing for Best Female Pop/Rock Vocal Song, or whatever the category is. I see Sheryl getting it for "The First Cut Is The Deepest". And...those are the only folks I can think of for now.

They were nominated last year and lost to Evanescence. No they weren't. Last year's best new artist nominees were 50 Cent, Evanescence, Sean Paul, Heather Headley and Fountains Of Wayne.
