Okay, I have a problem with my computer. I've tried to record sound from my microphone (yes, Steph, the one I bought when I was in France with you), and it won't record from it. I tried another microphone to see if the problem was the particular microphone, but it had the same problems, not recording on the computer. I checked the volume, and that wasn't the problem... and I had the microphone set as the input source. All that I get is very low static.
I know I have no problems recording audio from the Stereo Mix, so I figure the problem must be in my sound card config settings somewhere. Can anyone help me here?
EDIT: Just noticed something that might help more... in the recording control, the Stereo Mix, CD/Video In, and Line In all have normal Balance controls, but the Balance for the microphone control is grayed out!

Try going into the control panel and see if the computer is reading the mic. Sounds like the computer thinks you don't have a mic installed

Click options and properties. My computer only lets me record from one source at a time. My keyboard is in the "line in" one and my mic is always in the "mic" one. Make sure the checkmark is by the "mic" assuming that's where your mic is plugged in.
...oh, I just read the part about the greyed out. Yeah, it's probably something about your sound card settings. hmmm...

EDIT: Just noticed something that might help more... in the recording control, the Stereo Mix, CD/Video In, and Line In all have normal Balance controls, but the Balance for the microphone control is grayed out! That's normal for it to be greyed-out like that... Try this... Volume Control / Options / Properties / Make sure that you have the correct "Mixer Device" selected / Make sure "Line In" is checked / Click "Ok" / Options / Make sure "Advanced Controls" is Checked / Make sure "Line In" is not muted, and is turned up to the Maximum volume / Options / Properties / Click "Recording" / Make sure Microphone is checked / Click "Ok" / Click "select" under where it says "Microphone" / Make sure the "Microphone" volume is turned up to the max / Make sure the Master Volume on the left is turned up to the max and is not muted / Click "Advanced" under where it says "Microphone" / Check "1 Microphone Boost" / Make sure the "Bass" and "Treble" are on max (if they're not grayed out) / Click "Close" Try recording, now... If that doesn't work, restart your computer, then try recording again... If that doesn't work, try... Volume Control / Options / Properties / Recording / Ok / Check "select" where it says "Line In" / Make sure "Line In" volume is turned up to the maximum... Try recording, now...
