I think my Mom is willing to buy me a new computer, so I want to take advantage of her, before she changes her mind. Basically, I just want a computer that will allow me to have all of my music stored on it. That's my first concern. I also want it to allow my internet to run smoothly, and allow me to store some schoolwork on it - like, essays, projects, etc. This is supposed to last me through college. And, because I want it for college, it should be a laptop. I'm a bit hesitant about Dells, due to my experience with them in the past, but not completely against it. Now...what do you guys suggest? ;D

My main suggestion is that you get extra memory: 768 MB or 1 GB of RAM is ideal... but, definitely don't get less than 512 MB. More than anything else, the amount of memory you buy will determine how fast or slow your computer will run... so, don't skimp on memory. I would also recommend getting either a Pentium-M or Athlon-M processor... avoid buying a Celeron. Don't get less than 20 GB of Hard Drive space... between 30 GB and 60 GB is ideal. Don't go crazy with warranties... 2 years is good enough. Get Windows XP Home with the extra restore/backup CD. Look around. Don't be too quick to buy anything. Remember, computer sales people will tell you anything to get you to buy something that's more expensive... don't put too much credence in what they tell you. And, try to keep it within your price range. Anything under $1000 is decent.

If you're willing enough, purchase a LCD monitor! And I'll let you ship it over to me. I'll provide you with my address via PM. No, this is NOT a joke.

Go with an "entry level" system ($700-$900). If all you're doing is Internet, School, and Music... a Celeron or Athlon processor will be fine (for what you need it for). And like the other person said, get at least 512 MB of memory... you'll be sorry if you don't.
