k, my sister has become annoyingly anal about using up electricity and stuff lately and I like to leave my computer turned on during the day (with monitor off if I'm not gonna be around) and she tells me to turn it off. Does anyone know if the CPU uses up a lot of electricity when it is on? I remember hearing once that the amount of power it uses is really low. Is it true?

Can't you put your computer into sleep mode instead of just turning off your monitor? I heard that it will save some energy in some way...

Hibernate and StandBy modes will work as long as you're not using a network to connect to the internet. Actually, CRT Monitors are what use up the most energy. The computers themselves don't really use up that much energy.
