hubs are cheaper then routers, and i'm not aware if there are any differences as far as functions go. hubs come in various sizes (as much as 12 computers) and as little as 4.

A Broadband Router allows for two or more computers to be networked together and share an internet connection. Using only a single IP address on the Internet, each computer can be on the Internet at the same time. Routers also act as a (harware) firewall by masking the true IP address of the computer(s) - this helps keep computers safe from hackers. Routers may also be used to send files between computers on a network.
Hubs can only used to extend a network connection. They cannot connect directly to the internet. That's the key difference.
