The second of two number ones for Rick Astley, spending a week on top of the R&R Pop chart in June 1988. It was #27 on VH1's list of the 40 Most Awesomely Bad Songs To Hit #1, and the list is pretty bad like usual. Anyway, I like it a lot, this or "Never Gonna Give You Up" is my favorite from him.

Great song! I like this and "Never Gonna Give You Up" about the same.

I like this song the least out of any of his hits. "Never Gonna Give You Up" is a kitschy klassic!

Yeah. This is not my favourite. That honour goes to "Never Gonna Give You Up".

Cheesy, but catchy...I still hear it today and find myself humming to it

This brings back memories of 7th grade (1987-1988). A fun, catchy, danceable pop ditty!

Great song! I like this and "Never Gonna Give You Up" about the same. That's probably because they sound very much alike, especially the choruses. My favorite tracks off the "Whenever You Need Somebody" CD would have to be the third single, "It Would Take A Strong Strong Man" and the title track, which made the "American Dance Traxx" chart in late 1988 and hit #1 in the UK.

Actually, it was NGGYU that made VH1's Bad list. I like em both!

I just saw the video for this the other day on VH1 Classic "Pop Show" - that PWL/Stock Aitken Waterman sound still sounds pretty good today, even though nothing on the radio sounds remotely like this anymore. The best thing about this song is Rick's voice - which never quite seemed to go with his look, but it's a fun video. My fave from him is probably "Cry For Help" which was a few years later... my sister had the cassette tape of the debut and I borrowed it a few times!

Actually, it was NGGYU that made VH1's Bad list. I like em both! I disagreed with a lot of VH1's picks for the Awesomely Bad list, this being only one of them. (debuted on QNX on 3/19/88, peaked at #1 for 6 weeks)
