Active Rocker 98.1 CHOI-FM in Quebec City will not be granted a license renewal when its current license expires August 31st. The CRTC sited "offensive comments, personal attacks and harassment" by radio staff and owners as the main reasons. Most of the complaints received by the CRTC and CBSC (Canadian Broadcast Standards Council) revolve around 2 morning show jocks. CHOI-FM parent company Genex plans on overturning the decision in Federal Court and at the Cabinet level.

i heard about this and i also heard some of the deregatory(sp?) comments the jocks did on air, and i gotta say, i totally agree that their license should have been revoked... i agree in freedom of speech, but there is such a thing as being polite with free speech

A bit more news on this story:
According to News/Talker 580 CFRA Ottawa, CHOI-FM will be the first radio station in Canadian history to have their license revoked (involuntarily.) Also, CHOI-FM was previously given a slap on the wrist by the CRTC for other problems such as not doing their logs properly as well as not playing the minimum quota of 65% french music per broadcast week.
