Halifax is getting three including a Christain, Easy Listening and Top 40 stations! Score! Something to truly compete with C100.
St John's is getting some too and New Brunswick the others.
Looking to Monitor for more info and a source to this news...

This is absolutely great news. It's my opinion that Halifax is the most unserserved market in the country. I'm especially looking forward to seeing what a Rogers New/Talk FM station would sound like. All the details here: www.crtc.gc.ca/ENG/whatsnew/2004/nov26.htm

i saw about this on ATV Friday or Saturday, and some people were worried that all those stations wouldn't have enough sponsership for all the stations.

Halifax has ‘The Beat’
Toronto – November 26, 2004 - The CRTC announced today that it has approved CKMW’s application (OBCI) to operate a Youth Contemporary Radio station. The Beat will be on frequency 103.5 MHz (channel 278C) with an effective radiated power of 78,000 watts. It is a great day for Halifax Youth who so wished and supported the notion of this radio station becoming a reality.
The Beat’s Youth Contemporary Music Format in Halifax will feature a blend of Urban (including Hip Hop), Alternative Rock, Top 40, R&B and Dance.
“We are honoured and privileged to serve the 12-24 radio listeners in the Halifax CMA who have become increasingly disenfranchised from mainstream radio. We can’t wait to get started. We have in place the personnel, experience, expertise and resources to make this a reality – sooner rather than later. ” said Bill Evanov, President and CEO of the Evanov Radio Group Inc. who is the majority shareholder. Ms Ky Joseph and Ms Carmela Laurignano senior managers with this progressive company, which actively encourages and promotes women and minorities, are also shareholders in the new venture.
The Beat was designed and will be implemented as a local station to serve Halifax youth. Halifax proud of this station which will be on-air by June 2005. It will be a welcomed addition to sister stations CIDC-FM (Z103.5), CKDX-FM (Foxy 88.5) and CIAO AM530, all located in the greater Toronto area.

DARTMOUTH, NS, Nov. 29 /CNW/ - Newfoundland Capital Corporation Limited (TSX: NCC.SV.A, NCC.MV.B) is pleased to announce today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Newcap Inc., has been awarded a new FM broadcast licence by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to serve Fredericton, New Brunswick. The licence will be used to establish a new "Classic Rock" radio station format to be broadcast at 92.3 FM.
