How low will it go..or maybe not...The number of songs entering the Billboard Top/Hot 100 has been declining decade after decade. What will the 2000-2009 total be? (will we ever get 20+ #1 songs in a year again???)
(these are estimates.......) The Sixtys: 3000 Songs entered the top 100. The Seventies: 2500 songs The Eighties: 2200 songs The Ninties: 1500 songs
So far it looks like the 2-oh's will beat the ninties (with 4 years to go), but by how much?

wow. those numbers are fastly declining...whos to blame? Rappers, of course LOL!! While i'd like to blame rappers on almost everything (they are puppets of GWB arent they?), they may not be the cause only the result of the bigger issue... I'd put the blame on.... Clear Channel Communications Cumulus Broadcasting Inc Citadel Communications Viacom / Infinity Broadcasting Wall Street Testing (i.e. the song didnt test well (in denver) so we wont play it in detroit) The FCC Lack of Music Directors who actully care about music. and the list goes on and on....

I put mainly the blame on ClearChannel. When you have a handfull of companies playing the music, working with advertisers on what the format of the music should be (**See Note at bottom) and handfull of labels 'selling' the music, you get very little in the way of music. More Music should not mean More of the Same Thing ------------------------------------------------------------------------- **NOTE: Todays radio is set up to please advertisers, not listeners. Since advertisers want 15-34 year olds (they are the ones that can be influenced by 'branding' - those older have already made thier 'branding' choices, and hardley change), there is not much point in having any varitiey of music on 'pop' stations today. As the latin market (acceptable age audience) grows, more 'pop' stations will become latin music based.
