Due to budgetary and content limitations, Canada's music business trade publication Canadian Music Network will no longer publish radio format spins charts compiled by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems. CMN has instead opted to use the BDS audience charts as Canada's official radio charts. Subscribers to BDSEncore however can still access the spins charts. In the coming weeks, I will report on reactions from the Canadian record and radio industries on this recent development.
BDS is the world's leading airplay monitoring service and has been monitoring Canadian radio and music video stations since 1996.
The audience charts are compiled from gross impressions, computed by cross-referencing exact times of airplay with BBM listener data.

Not very... although I am a fan of the national audience chart (the top 10 I post). For making playlist decisions however, I doubt any programmer takes audience charts seriously. Hopefully the uproar from radio will cause CMN to bring the spins charts back.

How disappointing. I had thought the Canadian chart data would be more stable and available now that CMN is publishing them. Does this explain the increase in French language songs on the official CHR chart?

Good observation! The top two CHR stations in Canada in terms of audience are the ones in Montreal. They are both required to play 65% french music. CKMF, one of the two stations, leans HotAC now though and could possibly be moved to the HotAC panel.
