Oh okay...I thought we lost a lot more, judging from the lack of bullets in the top 20.

I was going to do a post about this subject... It begins to be really annoying to see songs with a HUGE jump one week, and finally disappear the next week 'cause the reporters don't submit a second chart.
This week, it seems that we lost at least 2 "rock" reporters since every rock songs in Top 100 are falling like rocks. I saw the same situation in the last months.
I'm wondering if that would be a good idea to create a panel of reporters or a "fidelization program" (is that a word?). I don't want to reject anybody, but that would be great to have a stable number of reporters.
Any comments?

I'm not sure how that would be implemented... but I thought of a possibility to stabilize the weird movements. (Yes, 2 of the dropped reporters this week have rock-leaning charts) I noticed something like this with Green Day's "Working Class Hero", which fell off from the top 50, and almost re-entered in the top 50 the week after (however, the dropped reporters and the new reporters that got it back on weren't the same people!) Any new reporters (or reporters who have not posted a chart in the past 3 weeks) would get their charts counted at half value. Then, if they post a new chart in the 2 weeks following it, they get upgraded to full points. The way it stands now, any reporters who don't report for 2 weeks get dropped from the panel... I could have it that the third week, their charts will count for half as well, and THEN get dropped after 3 weeks of non-reporting. So if you see half points on an upcoming Globalchart, you'll know what happened I'm not sure how to implement it... maybe keep a "half-points" section of the Globalchart spreadsheet. I'll have to ask John, I know he does this with Musicdays

I think reporters should be dropped after 4 weeks, not two. It would create more continuity, since some reporters return within a month.
I've also been concerned with some of the up-and-down movements. The funny thing is, with the current point system, songs that benefit with big gains are usually ones that appear on contributing charts that are Top 20 and Top 30 - they immediately get 20 or 30 points. But if a song makes a huge move up to #1 on someone's chart (say, 10-1), then it only gains 9 points. I think more points should be awarded to songs in people's Top 5, at least. That's what I used to do with the Globalchart when it was bi-weekly. It might be timely to make some changes to the chart methodology so that the chart can look more consistent from week to week.

I might have to wait until January 2008 to change the point system... as I want consistency on the year-end. I don't wanna make the formula too complicated though... believe it or not, there are some formulas that are too tough even for me to handle regularly!

Agreed - I'm sure with your math background you can think of something simple that will work for you

What I do with MUSICDAYS is that non-reporters' charts are cut in half when it comes to points. Once the list is cut in half, if they submit the next week they go back to full. If not, they are dropped completely.

The website and the BUZZZchart won't be posted until tomorrow evening, or perhaps even Thursday. Busy week - sorry for the delays!

Our website is now updated with the current chart. Globalchart Retro features our Top 10 from August 21, 2002 - it's hard to believe these songs are already 5 years old! m4bchartscentral.cjb.netAdmin Team Recommendations: It was either a quiet week for recommendations, or some of you didn't see my post in the Admin forum... BILL “Don’t Wanna”, dbClifford BRY (M!) “Handle Me”, Robyn JO-L “Apologize”, Timbaland featuring One Republic “The Perfect Girl”, Tara Slone And I have to apologize for the lack of chart commentary this week, it's just too busy around here with the week before school, both at home and at work. A long weekend is ahead, so I should have more time for the next chart!
