Hello everyone!
This week, I had one of those "I could have had a V-8" moments... After being sick for the good part of a week, after my wife recovered from some minor surgery, and having to deal with the onslaught of the holidays, I had of course been listening to Darren Hayes' This Delicate Thing We've Made CD quite frequently. There are two songs on that CD that are bookends that tell a story - "Waking The Monster" and "How To Build A Time Machine", which kick off the time travel concept that the CD revolves around. So it dawned on me - neither of these songs are on my chart!!! Of course "Me Myself And (I)", Darren's Prince-like party anthem, is up top... but I like "How To Build A Time Machine" better... so voila - a debut at #1 for "How To Build A Time Machine"! I expect this will take the chart well into 2008 and will be difficult to dislodge. If you read my CD review of This Delicate Thing in the Album Discussions forum, you'll already know that this song had a rare emotional effect on me akin to "The Wizard Of Oz" and "Field Of Dreams", so it's very appropriate that it's now #1! ;D ;D
With that news out of the way, Roz Bell's "Papercut" becomes his second Top 5 hit, and Jully Black's "Seven Day Fool" (a cousin of Craig David's "7 Days") also lands in the Top 5. Matt White's very 70's pop-sounding "Best Days" and Marianas Trench's "September" are new to the Top 10 this week.
The fastest risers on the chart this week are great songs for New Year's Eve parties - Enur & Natasja's "Calabria", the Seamus Haji remix of Roisin Murphy's "Overpowered", and Ida Corr vs Fedde Le Grand's "Let Me Think About It".
One more chart till the year end list!!
Two more debuts round out the chart for this edition. You can view the full chart at the link in my signature. Enjoy, and please post any comments you might have! Thanks!
ALSO NEW TO THE CHART:
BLEEDING LOVE Leona Lewis
Lewis' #1 UK smash has grown on me during the last month, and I expect she will have a huge international career if this song is any indication.
LIFE OF A SOLDIER illScarlett
This Toronto alt.rock quartet has been all the buzz this year, and this reggae tinged tribute to forces overseas is a perfect holiday gift. "Life Of A Soldier" could easily cross over to pop and become a substantial hit!
