Hello one and all!
The tree begins to shake on this edition of my chart, but Darren Hayes' "Step Into The Light" is still number one, for a record-tying sixth appearance. It will surely give way to another song in two weeks, but which song?
Timbaland's "The Way I Are" has been a real sleeper for me this year. I didn't initially like it with its cheesy "Push It"-soundalike keyboard riff, but the lyrics and vocal by Keri Hilson have grown on me, and it arrives at #2! Alex Gaudino & Crystal Waters hold for a 4th appearance at #3 with "Destination Calabria", and Rufus Wainwright lands in the Top 5 with "Tulsa". Amy Winehouse's "Tears Dry On Their Own" is on the periphery as it rises to #6, while songs by Canucks Marianas Trench and David Usher are also new to the Top 10.
While new tunes by Mika, Darren Hayes, and Kanye West look like they might be Top 10 bound, the highlight of the week is Fastest Riser "Make Me Better" by Fabolous & Ne-Yo (26-13). This is one of the best soul/rap collaboration that I've heard, so expect some big gains in the coming weeks!
Five sparkling tunes debut this week. You MUST hear Joshua Radin's "The Fear You Won't Fall", which storms the chart at #16. Go to his myspace.com site at www.myspace.com/joshuaradin, where you can hear it since it's not on his recent CD. I heard this one on TV, and it's a beautiful, gentle lyrical song heading into the Fall. Next up at #24 is another softer tune. One Republic's "Apologize" has been around for a couple of years now, and Timbaland has tweaked it a bit and put it on his Shock Value CD. It premieres at #24. A great fun, end of summer song is "I Fell In Love With The DJ" by Australian singer Chenelle at #25, and a rave up for clubs is David Guetta's "Love Is Gone" at #26. New Canadian star George is at #27 with the pretty ballad "Last Time". You'll recall he got to #17 on this chart last Fall with "Talk To Me". He's doing some unique promotions to get his music out to fans, including a 4 hour cruise here in Toronto...
