As was hinted with the last chart, there was a possibility that Darren Hayes' "Step Into The Light" could reach #1 in the face of possibly the tightest competition all year. And that it does, climbing 12-1, one of the biggest jumps in recent memory to #1. I'll be seeing Darren in concert on Friday night, and I'm looking forward to hearing some of his new stuff as well as possibly some other favourites by him (and Savage Garden) such as "To The Moon & Back", "Break Me Shake Me", "Crush (1980 Me)", "Insatiable", and "Pop!ular". This is Darren's second #1 on this chart - "Crush (1980 Me)" got there for one chart in 2002.
This of course has left Matt Darey and Tiesto stranded at #2 and #3 respectively. In fact I don't think I've been as torn as leaving a song at #2 since Gigi D'Agostino's "I'll Fly With You" kept Ian Van Dahl's "Castles In The Sky" at #2 back in 2001. Gigi ended up #2 for 2001; Ian Van Dahl ended up #4 for that year; I expect something similar will happen near the top of the year end list for "Step Into The Light" and "Beautiful Day".
Patrick Wolf's "The Magic Position" climbs 6-4, a point ahead of "Makes Me Wonder" by Maroon5, which falls 1-5.
The only new song in the Top 10 is "You Are The One" by Shiny New Toys, but that's not done yet.
Other songs to watch include those by Alex Gaudino & Crystal Waters, Erasure, Tyler Hilton, Chris Cornell, Sandra, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, and Jon McLaughlin.
There is a lineup of songs waiting to arrive on this chart, and so there are four debuts this week.

NEW TO THE CHART:
BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY (PERSONAL) - Fergie
BREAK MY FALL - Tiesto f/ BT
This might even be better than their previous collab on "Love Comes Again" from 2004, which got to #5 on this chart.
TULSA - Rufus Wainwright
See my review of Release The Stars if you missed it - freakyflybry.proboards70.com/index.cgi?board=albums&action=display&thread=1180805428 - I'm also seeing Rufus in concert Monday night.
