Along with the new Natalie Merchant song, lengthy gaps seem to be a consistent topic in this week's Globalchart. "Lost" by Linkin Park ascends to #1 - only their second, but first since 2009's "New Divide". They're also back at #74 with "Fighting Myself", another lost track from the Meteora sessions. Jason Mraz's "I Feel Like Dancing" leaps 60-34, his first Top 40 entry since 2018. His first 7 entries on the chart made the Top 40. Tori Kelly's "Missin' U" arrives at #54, her first chart entry since 2016. Matchbox Twenty gives us some new music and "Wild Dogs (Running in a Slow Dream)" debuts at #62. It's their first chart entry since 2013. "Picture of You" by the Sam Roberts Band is new at #75. It's the Juno Award winning group's first chart appearance since 2014. And while artists like Natalie Merchant and Shania Twain were on our chart back in 1998, there are several artists on the chart whose repertoire precedes the chart: Depeche Mode Peter Gabriel Dolly Parton Belinda Carlisle Cyndi Lauper Debbie Harry Gloria Estefan Ozzy Osbourne Metallica Olivia Newton-John (RIP) Bryan Adams Everything But The Girl Universal Honey Mariah Carey Slipknot Beyoncé (in Destiny's Child) Whitney Houston (RIP) Papa Roach Disturbed Ann Wilson Feeling old? Well for most of you, not as old as me

billcs, I believe this is a chart record, can you confirm that Natalie Merchant taking nearly 25 years between chart entries is a record? I believe she hadn't charted since "Kind & Generous" in 1998. I think you're likely right. It's just shy of 25 years though because Kind & Generous charted in September 1998. I still think it's a record though

If there are any changes, they will be temporary. As Bryan says, the next thing will come along and replace it. The industry can't afford to lose the numbers and will be actively looking for ways to replace them. And as Vic says, the Hot 100 is already broken, probably still heavily manipulated to suit the industry.
