20. Miley Cyrus - Flowers PEAK: #1 (1 weeks) Weeks on: 15 If there was any song worldwide that was inescapeable in 2023, it really has to be this one, doesn't it? The empowering breakup anthem from Miley Cyrus shows she keeps going from strength to strength and has kept her relevant this far into her career... and it really is no wonder! Highest entry for her, and I hope she'll be back in the future with songs as great as this too! 19. Olivia Rodrigo - Vampire PEAK: #1 (2 weeks) Weeks on: 14 Now we go to the youngest artist on the countdown surely. Already on her second album, this proved that she was no fluke as it shot straight to the top of the charts, including my own. Olivia Rodrigo delivers a haunting melody here, setting the mood well of a blood sucker bleeding you dry like a vampire! Highest entry for her - and I expect "All-American Bitch" to keep the hit streak going into 2024! 18. Pierce The Veil - Emergency Contact PEAK: #1 (2 weeks) Weeks on: 22 I'd heard a few songs before by this pop-punk "scene" band, straight off the Warped Tour stage... but none quite like this! This pulsating mid-tempo alternative rock tune, led by the distinct voice of Vic Fuentes, quickly became my favourite song of theirs so far, and becoming their first #1. 17. Olivia O'Brien - Never Be The One PEAK: #1 (1 weeks) Weeks on: 23 Another singer who only had limited success for me before this, with a few minor chart appearances, but broke through in 2023, is Olivia O'Brien! While she is generally better known for other songs, this was the one I liked best, as well as becoming her first #1. 16. Dolly Parton, Belinda Carlisle, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan & Debbie Harry - Gonna Be You PEAK: #1 (2 weeks) Weeks on: 15 Talk about an ultimate 80's diva collaboration! This song from the soundtrack for "80 For Brady", which was written by Diane Warren and teams up 5 iconic ladies of the 80's, had the star power to rise straight to the top of my chart, and it's no wonder why! 15. Laura Cox - So Long PEAK: #3 Weeks on: 20 Highest of two entries from this French rock vixen here; I've really taken appreciation to her style lately and I enjoyed the video to this as much as the song. "Swing It Out" is currently rising and I expect it'll be on this list in 2024 too! 14. McFly - Where Did All The Guitars Go? PEAK: #2 Weeks on: 19 I liked several McFly songs before, but this return after a hiatus I was surprised I ended up liking THIS much! This song, which provided a solution to its title and showing the fans that they'll still deliver strong guitar-driven music, hit the runner-up spot on my chart, and became their biggest hit to date for me. 13. Kate Voegele & Bien - The Best Part (French Version) PEAK: #1 (3 weeks) Weeks on: 16 As with any time Kate Voegele returns with new music, I'm all ears here! This song, which has her singing in French along with her mates Bien on a translation of their song "The Best Part", made an instant impact for me, and coming back after nearly three years away proved I still have the same interest in her that I always did! Still one more from her to come, as her new band Your Future Ghost is somewhere still to come with their debut! 12. Amanda Marshall - I Hope She Cheats PEAK: #3 Weeks on: 20 I never thought that Amanda Marshall would ever return with new music... but in 2023, that's just what she did! This attitude-filled anthem, which sounds straight out of this Canadian diva's 90's heyday, led off her first new album in over 20 years, "Heavy Lifting", and I'm glad she managed to deliver on the comeback front! 11. Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer PEAK: #1 (3 weeks) Weeks on: 18 It's the song that got everyone talking, the tour that everyone is talking about... none other than Time's Person of the Year, Taylor Swift! This song, always one of my favourites on her "Lover" album, is one I'd definitely wanted to chart back during its original run but in the end, that got siderailed. Enter her latest tour and a fan campaign to get this song to go viral... everyone noticed and now it's a huge #1 smash! On my chart was no exception as it got 3 weeks at #1 and just narrowly missed my year-end top 10!

10. Kelly Clarkson - Rock Hudson PEAK: #2 Weeks on: 19 If there was any doubt that "Chemistry" by Kelly Clarkson is my top album of the year... let it all be washed away! She managed to rank THREE songs in my year-end top 10, something she also did in 2005 and 2015. This is the first of them, and one of the best songs on the album that became a personal chart hit. How high for her other two songs? 9. Anastacia - Best Days PEAK: #2 Weeks on: 20 Given her popularity in Europe (especially Germany), it was only a matter of time before Anastacia recorded an album of covers of classic German songs! This was the highlight from the "Our Songs" album, one of many translated from the original German version; other songs on the album were originally recorded in English and simply covered. While "Take This Chance", which got #1 for me in 2015, was a bigger hit for me, that was split between two years, and this as a result becomes her first ever year-end top 10 placing, as well as the highest song on here to fail to reach #1! All #1 hits from here on in. 8. Paramore - The News PEAK: #1 (2 weeks) Weeks on: 20 Paramore just had rotten luck up to this year, but it seems like every time they release a new album, their chart stats just keep improving. It took a while for them to reach the top 10 (Still Into You)... then the top 5 (Hard Times)... and now, finally a #1. Someone tell them the news... Hayley Williams finally got what she always would've wanted, and it was long overdue and couldn't have happened with a better song! Its overall longevity has led to a top 10 placing on the year-end chart. 7. Dua Lipa - Dance The Night PEAK: #1 (2 weeks) Weeks on: 19 Every year has its fair share of movie soundtracks, and the best of them are loaded with hit singles. This year's best example has to be "Barbie", doesn't it? I did chart a few other entries from the soundtrack, but the biggest hit was of course from Dua Lipa. This follows where her "Future Nostalgia" singles left off with another energetic disco tune, which became her fourth #1 on my chart (she has since achieved a 5th with "Houdini" as well.) I'm definitely anticipating what direction her career will take next, and given her track record so far, I'm expecting the best! 6. Depeche Mode - Ghosts Again PEAK: #1 (3 weeks) Weeks on: 19 I was worried that the death of founding member Andy Fletcher would mark the end of Depeche Mode... but thankful that their two surviving members have carried on! And their latest album, "Memento Mori", definitely had among my favourites from them ever, as it landed three songs in my year-end top 100. This lead single was a quick impacting one for me, as it made it to #1 for three weeks upon its release and was an early leader for one of my top songs of the year. In the end, #6 is definitely better than I expected, but glad that their latest era has been one of their strongest since their 80's-90's career peak!

5. Carly Rae Jepsen - Psychedelic Switch PEAK: #1 (4 weeks) Weeks on: 20 For the past 12 years running, Carly Rae Jepsen has been one of my chart's top artists, with 10 #1 songs during this time. While in the real world her success has diminished, she has evolved into more of a cult favourite singer, delivering well-written, well-produced pop songs that have endeared her to many critics. Her latest album "The Loveliest Time" was released in 2023, and this was the immediate highlight and one of the songs of the summer for me. "Psychedelic Switch" spent 4 weeks at #1, and brings her back into the year-end top 10, which she also placed in 2013, 2015, 2017 (where she had #1), and 2022. 4. Your Future Ghost - We've Got Places PEAK: #1 (6 weeks) Weeks on: 14 Well, given that Kate Voegele came back in 2023 with a new project... it just had to go straight to #1, right? Upon the announcement of her new band Your Future Ghost, this indie rock styled song ushered in a new era for Kate, with a partnership that really worked creatively. This has Kate's usual songwriting genius and her voice still sounds as great as ever. And given her past success, I was really pumped for this, and glad Kate delivered, spending 6 weeks at #1 and remaining top 5 on my chart to this day. I'm hoping for more new music from Kate in 2024, hopefully she'll release more with Your Future Ghost if it's as good as this song! 3. Matchbox Twenty - Wild Dogs (Running In A Slow Dream) PEAK: #1 (2 weeks) Weeks on: 21 Another long-awaited comeback comes in at #3, the lead single from the first new Matchbox Twenty album in over a decade, "Where The Light Goes". While they have toured in the meantime and Rob Thomas has also released solo material, this brought the band back writing and recording new songs, and this turned out to match up to their best here, spending 2 weeks at #1. So with three all-time favourite artists so far in the top 5... the top 2 is more of the same. In fact, BOTH songs are by Kelly Clarkson! But which one turned out on top?

Wow! Matchbox 20 at #3! Didn't expect that, although I do recall it going straight to #1 for you And of course Carly Rae and Kate! Would it be a FreakyFlyBry year-end chart without some Jekky at the top?

2. Kelly Clarkson - Me PEAK: #1 (5 weeks) Weeks on: 24 For only the second time in my chart's history (the first being Kate Voegele in 2020), the same artist has my #1 and #2 songs of the year! And given Kelly Clarkson came back in 2023, it was no surprise that she'd sweep the top 2! This empowering anthem was one of the dual lead singles from this project, and made an instant impact, shooting straight to #1 for 5 weeks! The lyrics are definitely relateable and Kelly's voice is on point here, she really feels what she's singing! But there was one other song that I preferred over this one. 1. Kelly Clarkson - Favorite Kind Of High PEAK: #1 (4 weeks) Weeks on: 29 Normally "Me" would've been an easy #1 here... but Kelly managed to outdo herself here! This upbeat pop-dance tune was co-written by Carly Rae Jepsen and it's easy to see her influence here, it could've fit on any of her recent albums as well. From the opening notes, this song really had me moving along, and this proved Kelly's versatility as her vocals suit all different kinds of songs. Honestly "Chemistry" has become one of my favourite albums so far from her and it's a no-brainer that she is my top artist of 2023 too. I knew this would dominate when I first heard it, and its 29-week run, with 4 of those at #1, just shows it all in a year where barely any songs had longevity. Congratulations Kelly - you have the honour of my favourite song of the year for the third time, following "Dark Side" in 2012 and "Invincible" in 2015!
