While I don't think I like the idea of AI being used in music production. I am ok with this. This is a one-time special "novelty-like" situation where John Lennon's voice will be enhanced and brought to life. It is kind of reminiscent of Natalie/Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable. Yes I know, in this case they were using Nat's original track. I am sure some purists will still not like this Beatles song, but I am interested in hearing (and charting ) this. I still not looking forward to Drake and the Tiktokkers using AI at every whim. www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-65881813

I mean this is their actual vocals so this could work. I just don't want AI to take over the entire industry.

I hope this'll turn out, and that the John and George posthumous/AI-enhanced/cleaned-up-from-the-demo contributions work well with present-day Paul and Ringo vocals.

AI will probably be just a tool like many others for artists. This is a good example where AI is used as a tool to revive Lennonβs vocals that were badly recorded.
I doubt any new artist or tiktokkers can become popular strictly from making AI music. In the end, artists that are famous have built a career based on their talent and connected with fans through shows and medias over decades.
But AI does bring up ethical questions. John Lennon is not there to approve this song for release, for instance.
If Kirk Hammett of Metallica asks AI to generate a guitar solo in his style⦠and uses it later on an album. Is Kirk Hammett really the creator? Does he own the rights if he did not write it?
How much creative laziness from the artist will be tolerated? 20% 50% 80%?

Interesting take on that ziggy. In case like this, Do the "Beatles" own the rights to this track? do the estates of Lennon and Harrison have a say? Who speaks for those that have passed?
We have to assume the Whitney family approved of Kygo's production of "higher Love".

It's a long saga.
At this moment, Paul McCartney and Sony/ATV both own publication rights to the Beatles catalog. Yoko Ono sold the rights to Lennon's music to Sony/ATV in 2009
So, I guess Paul can do whatever he wants... don't think Sony will stop him.

I think I am perfectly fine with Paul McCartney releasing this "final" Beatles track using A.I. to enhance John Lennon's voice. From what I read elsewhere, the track, "Now And Then" was recorded at the time when the Anthology albums were made in 1995. The song came from Yoko via a cassette sent to Paul. The song was recorded with the three surviving Beatles at the time but not used for the album. Harrison was not too happy with it. Nearly 30 years later A.I. will be used to enhance the track I guess. The Beatles are not new to experimenting with technology as they did with some of their music back in the 1960s and McCartney has done some electronic album records in the past. I am sure the song will chart briefly on whatever national charts like iTunes and perhaps some of the specialty Billboard ones. If it is good I will chart in on my Current Top 20 when it comes out. As for A.I. itself, I am sure it will be and is already being used widely in music and other arts... so far what I hear on YouTube are a lot of bogus A.I. tracks put out be people making "new" recordings of old tunes that are not connected with the artists being A.I.'d.... for example "We Are The World" by The Beatles... ugh!

AI is a concern but let's not forget real humans were involved in the likes of Crazy Frog getting to #1, so who's to say they're any better.

Sean Lennon apparently tweeted out that AI was only used to "clean up" the recording and nothing more. So Paul McCartney jumped the gun a bit with how AI is being used on the track.

I'm pleased with the result. Great production with contributions used from all Beatles members.

I think it turned out really well. Makes me feel like all four of them were in the studio together even though it is comprised of productions from "now" and "then", appropriately enough.
A fitting final chapter to the saga of the Beatles, the lyrics definitely have new meaning to Paul and Ringo today.
