Bumpy makes a 3rd week at #1, which might be notable because the competition in this top end of the chart is very heated lately. GG Magree jumps up to #2 with "Be Careful What You Say", and Eddie Benjamin is right behind at #3. BABYMETAL are down to #4 with "METAL KINGDOM" and we have a new entry at #5, more on that in a moment.
NEW ENTRIES
Gotta say it's not super often I have that big moment of revelation on a first play of a song, I think the last time that happened was with "illusions" which incidentally just falls out of the chart. Furthermore though, it's even more rare that this couples with 'I think a lot of people could like this song and not just me!'. Irish relative newcomer Nell Mescal really blew me away with "In My Head" and lays claim to the highest debut of the year at #5.
Here's a non-newcomer though, because Temples have had as many entries as Nell has got songs period. It's been quite a while though, not helped by my tendency to have their songs grow on me too belately. Not this time though, I was into "Cicada" the moment I heard it, and it gives them 4 chart entries as it debuts at #28.
Next up is another newcomer, and our sole Australian contingent of the week. They don't sound quite like other Byron Bay bands that come to mind immediately, but Seaside do get their first entry with "We're On Fire" at #35.
Remember the last time Khalid charted? It was way back in 2018 with "lovely" by Billie Eilish. On an unrelated note, he's back now with Dove Cameron on "We Go Down Together" at #40, which adds to her surprisingly high count of entries, just ask Architecture In Helsinki, because it's 5.
